Clermont County Moves to 2 5 Numbering Plan This Sunday

Clermont County telephone numbers switch to a two letter five digit dialing scheme on Sunday January 8 at 2 01 am affecting about 7 000 local numbers and over 7 700 telephones. Batavia area splits into numbers changing in groups with some kept until May 20 1956. Central offices Ulysses Plymouth Swift and Skyline appear as new names.

Local Girls Held With 2 Robbery Suspects In South

Two Clermont County girls Shirley McBath and Delores Butler were arrested in Florida with two Newtown men linked to a December 27 armed robbery in Statesville North Carolina. Also named are Estell Gross Robert Shoemaker Lewis Beard and Earlene Shoemaker. John Hughes injured in Batavia one way bridge crash. Albert Finley under observation after indictment related to his 10 year old daughter.

Arson Suspected In Clermont School Blaze And Awards Planned

The sixth annual meeting of the Clermont Soil Conservation District will be held at 8 p m Wednesday Jan 11 in the Batavia elementary school auditorium. John Slipher of Ohio State University will speak on Land Building and the Farmer focusing on soil and water conservation and crop production. Slipher has 35 years in soils work and 32 years with the Ohio Agriculture Extension Service.

Doctor Named Clermont County Health Commissioner

Dr. Charles Kramer of New Richmond was appointed Clermont County health commissioner by the Board of Health, effective Jan. 1, succeeding Dr. F M Oxley whose term expired. Oxley declined due to ill health. Kramer previously chaired the county health board and resigned in December 1955. Dr Walter Culley of Bethel was named to replace Kramer, awaiting acceptance.

The Dun and Bradstreet Clermont County section lists 740 local manufacturers wholesalers and retailers reflecting regional growth. One room fire at Glen Este Mount Carmel school investigated by Ohio Fire Marshal suspects arson after smoldering in a rear closet. no students harmed. needles and branches from a Christmas decoration found.

Aged Man Takes His Own Life in New Richmond Park

Charles Tomlin, 82, of Green Mound Road, New Richmond, died in the village park on December 29 after using a .22 pistol and a rope. He was retired and survived by his widow and two sons Harold and Charles. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Harry M. Breuer. White Funeral Home handled arrangements.
