County Hires Milford Architects for New 128-Bed Detention Facility

In 1984 eight months saw county commissioners hire Steinkamp and Nordloh Milford architects to design a 128-bed adult detention facility. Plans were obtained and bids opened with ground broken near the temporary jail on Filager Road. The jail is expected to open October 1985, with staffing and operation among 1985’s top stories. In October a contract dispute with former jail architects Cole and Russell of Batavia was settled for 50 000. Tom Cole’s 72-bed design from 1979-80 was shelved for lack of funds and expanded concepts in 1983 were deemed too costly.
