Town Hall Ball Draws Young Society People

About 100 invitations were issued three weeks earlier for a ball at the town hall. Thirty couples attended a pleasant evening with harp and drums, a substantial luncheon by Miss Kate Hamilton, and guests from Cincinnati, Milford, Amelia, New Richmond and nearby towns.

Clermonton County Students Earn State Life Certificates

Last week at the State school examination in Columbus about 200 applicants appeared. Clermonton County produced two successful candidates, Edward H. Pattison of Owensville with a high school life certificate and Courtney L. Allen of Moscow with an elementary State life certificate. They rank at the head of schools in their towns.

Taft Accepts Yale Law Professorship Offer

President Taft has decided to accept the Kent professorship of law at Yale University and will likely assume duties in New Haven early next spring. He can lecture beyond Yale and engage in related activities, a move likened to Grover Cleveland’s Princeton relation. Taft plans several weeks in Auguste, Georgia after March.

Batavia pupils stage A Christmas Wish play

On December 24 Miss Clara Johnson’s Batavia class presented a one act drama A Christmas Wish with seven characters. Players included Helen Rush Edith Frederick Kline Jr Alfred Irane Holick Notokah Harriet Kain Abigail Windthrop Pauline Van Horn Bianco Ruth Kramer Katinka Elizabeth Black Oita San. The performance drew visitors and could aid the library fund with a small admission fee.

Sixty Years Together G W Needham Couple Celebrates

Mr and Mrs G W Needham of Norwood formerly Newtonsville marked their 60th wedding anniversary last week. Married in 1852 in Newtonsville, they spent their lives in Clermont and Hamilton counties. Both in their 80s, they enjoyed a musical program and Rev Acosts talk on wedding celebrations. They received many gifts and have two children, Stanley and Olive.

Christmas Celebration at Xenia U S and S C Home

On Christmas morning at 4 o clock children marched through the administration building singing carols. There was a Christmas tree in every cottage and gifts for every inmate. A turkey dinner at noon followed, making the day a memorable event for all residents.

Death notices Henry Drummond recalls cherished churchman

Note records the death of Henry Drummond born April 30 1847 in Riley's Mills Clermont Ohio who died November 27 at age 65 years 6 months 27 days. He joined the M E church at twenty and was a devout Christian with two sons John in Polacca Arizona and Moody in Dupree South Dakota. His wife Isella Davie Odell died seven years ago. He lived with sister Mrs Reuben Waite before illness ended his life.

Guilty Rulings in Major Iron Workers Conspiracy Trial

In Indianapolis a jury found thirty eight of forty International Asse, Bridge and Structural Iron Workers officials guilty of conspiracy to dynamite non union iron work across the United States. Two defendants were discharged. The trial spanned weeks with a quick verdict, prompting emotional reactions in the courtroom as families watched. If sentenced to the full term it could last 89 years and six months before release.

BORN MARRIED AND DIED On Christmas Day

Orien Lytle born December 25, 1838 near Williamsburg married December 26, 1867 and died December 25, 1912 in Batavia after a long illness. He served three years in the service and remained at his post. Surviving are a widow and three sons Vernon Roderick and Stark, plus nine children in all and one sister Mrs. Georgia Myrick. Funeral from M E church Friday at 2 PM, burial in Union cemetery.

Popular Educator Named Superintendent of Lancaster School

The appointment of Prof. H. L. Turnipseed head of the New Richmond public schools to superintendent of letters at the Boys Industrial School in Lancaster Ohio meets with general approval. His resignation takes effect Friday and he begins his new duties immediately with a salary of 1600 dollars plus rooms and upkeep. He may also continue as State School Examiner and fill institute assignments next summer. James Hitch and family visited Monroe Wiseman in Perriston while Robinson and Wiseman report strong mercantile patronage.
