Longtime Goshen Civil War Veteran Passes at 78
John Smysor died at his home three miles south of Goshen on December 14, 1912 after a long illness. Born August 15, 1839, he served in Company G, 89th O W I, was captured at Chickamauga, and spent 515 days in rebel prisons. He joined the M E church in 1862 and remained faithful. He married Matilda in 1871 and is survived by his wife, two daughters Zetta Smysor and Margaret Bishop, plus a brother George Smyson and sister Mrs. Thomas Hill.
