Republicans Propose Ohio Redistricting Plan

Rep Walter E Powell and Rep Barry Levey, both of Butler County, introduced a bill to redraw Ohio's congressional map. It creates a new 24th District covering Butler Warren Clermont counties and places Montgomery in the 3rd District. The existing 15th District would be eliminated and its territory split between the 10th and 18th Districts, with Clermont leaving the Sixth District.

District realignment aims to shed at large seat in Ohio

The proposal would redraw districts to add Jackson and Lawrence Counties in District Included and Warren and Fayette County in Seventh District. It is the second bill this session with the same goal after Sen John C. Smith's earlier measure. The plan would eliminate Ohio’s at large seat now held by Robert Taft Jr. who may seek the U S Senate in 1964.

Batavia Area Home Burns To Ground

The residence of W A Peters and family on Taylor Road near Batavia burned to the ground after a prior fire had gutted it weeks earlier. Batavia firefighters fought the blaze for about 45 minutes, rekindled, and returned at 12 45 p m to find it out of control and let the debris burn. The fire origin is unknown and Fire Chief Jake Laffleur said a state fire marshal investigation would be requested.

Guidance Unit To Sponsor OSU Orientation At Batavia

The Clermont County Guidance Director's Association will sponsor an Ohio State University orientation program on March 11 at 8 p.m. in the Batavia High School auditorium under the Ohio State Alumni Association. No verdict yet in Campbell death

Milford reports the Hamilton County Coroner has not issued a verdict in the death of Eugene Campbell 29 of 1247 Duncan Drive found with a head wound in a wooded area near his home. A .32-20 revolver lay nearby and Campbell died at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital after returning from Paris Kentucky last week. Deputy said he had been missing earlier in the week.

Station Operator Cleared In First Clermont Jury Trial

Kenneth Hinners, operator of a Milford service station, was found innocent of assault and battery by a Clermont County jury. The trial, presided by Judge John D. Erhardt, was the first jury trial since the court became a court of record on January 1.

Attorney Named Clerk of Board of County Commissioners

Rex Ely a Batavia attorney with Ely White and David son was named clerk of the Board of County Commissioners replacing Betty Lindsey. Ely will start Monday and also serves Ohio Attorney General William Saxbe as an assistant to represent the state in Clermont County. The board also named Rocco Spinelli and Ed Smith to the Board of Building Standards and approved salary reductions and meeting limits to cut costs. Alfred Ginn was dismissed as assistant building inspector effective March 15.
