Fire investigation continues into Newtonsville blaze

State Fire Marshal Willis S. Peterson and Deputy Sheriff Frank Hutchinson led the probe into a Tuesday fire that destroyed a home and barn owned by Arthur Sparger near Newtonsville. Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks called in investigators after noting the buildings stood 350 feet apart and appeared to burn simultaneously. Lloyd Conover first spotted the fire and alerted the Newtonsville Fire Department, which battled the blaze as residents lacked phone service. A dog died in the flames. household goods, three tractors, and farm machinery were lost.

Motorist Charged With Manslaughter in Clermont County

Charles McClain 41 of Newport Kentucky was bound over to the Clermont County Grand Jury by Mayor J F Faschal on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. He had been fined forty dollars and costs after an accident on Route 74 near the Clermont Brown boundary injuring two and killing John D Foster of Newport.

Flood Control Plans Dropped for Chile and Nearby Towns

U S Engineers place the Chile flood control project on inactive status. Plans costing 795000 are halted due to insufficient local participation and weak economic justification. Aberdeen Cleves and Manchester flood programs were also dropped for the same reasons.

Girl Hitch-Hiker Steals Car From Generous Driver

Hamilton County police seek a 19 year old woman described as five feet three inches tall and 125 pounds who stole a Cincinnati man's car from a tourist court after giving him a ride on Monday morning. The vehicle was recovered later the same day in Hamilton County. The hitch hiker wore a red coat and blue jeans as she vanished.

Former Bethel Man Identified As A Communist

Harvey M. Matusow, 25, of Dayton, testified before the Ohio Un American Activities Committee that a former Bethel resident named West was a communist two years earlier. West reportedly left Bethel for Georgia. Matusow said he was expelled from the communist party last year.

Courthouse Work Contract Awarded in Clermont County

The Clermont County Commissioners awarded the courthouse conference room remodel to Arnold L. Beck of Cincinnati for 5275.73. The project will create three rooms for the commissioners, the Soldiers' and Sailors' Relief Commission, and examiners on inspection trips. They also rejected all bids for a Clermont County Home poster project as over the allowed amount.

Death Takes Aged Man After Driver Spares Life

Leonard Smith, 21, of New Richland was found guilty and sentenced to the reformatory by Judge Charles E. Weber in Cincinnati Criminal Court on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. Smith and a minor allegedly stole the car of Allen W. Massett of Erlanger Kentucky and were arrested in the vehicle at Troy, Ohio.

Trucker Saves Man From Burning Clothes On Ohio hillside

Milford Ohio Friday scene ends with driver Arco Miller ripping burning garments from 75 year old Rufus Dennison as flames engulfed brush on Garfield Avenue. Dennison died Tuesday at General Hospital Cincinnati after burns covering about 70 percent of his body. Miller and Thomas and Robert Jones aided the injured man, who has one arm, while Milford Fire Department battled the blaze. Dennison is survived by son Sherman Dennison of Chicago.

Dr Clar ence A Meeker 67 of 6127 Corbly Avenue admitted to police he performed illegal operations for 20 years A tip led to his arrest after a woman said the girlfriend of her daughter would undergo an operation The doctor was taken into custody when two girls were found near his office and he later signed statements about the incident He is charged with abortion and Bond set at 2500 He previously served 16 months in federal prison in Atlanta Ga in 1924.

Amelia School District ballots on $208000 bond issue
