Batavia Banker Resigns to Take Xenia Post

Howard Wilson 36, vice president of Clermont National Bank, resigns Saturday to become cashier of Citizens First National Bank of Xenia effective March 16. Native of Batavia, he studied at Miami University and led Batavia bank to assets rising from 3.5 to 6 million in five years. Kenneth O Briant will become Batavia bank manager. Wilson will commute from Batavia to Xenia until June. He has held local posts including Batavia councilman and secretary treasurer of the Batavia Businessmen’s Association. He and his wife Grace are parents of two.

Dedication Sunday for All Saints Lutheran Mt Carmel

Officials Pledge No More Outlay From PUB Fund

County commissioners said no further expenditures will be made from the Pierce Union Batavia water system maintenance and improvement fund until it reaches 250000. An exception may occur for a 12 inch water main from old Rt 74 to a standpipe site if a federal grant is approved. Leaders seeking lower water rates were assured funds will support improvements after the target is met. Financing limits require three funds to reach specified levels before rate reductions.

Highway Project Bids Due March 17

Sealed proposals received by State Highway Director P.E. Masheter by 10 a.m. March 17 for a 3.314 mile relocation of U.S. 52 in Ohio and Pierce Township and New Richmond. Work includes grading draining paving two reinforced cement lanes and a dual structure over Twelve Mile Creek.

Batavia to Honor Varsity Reserve and Junior High Teams

Batavia will hold an athletic banquet Thursday March 5 to honor its varsity reserve and junior high basketball teams. Tickets for the chicken dinner are 175 for adults and 10 cents for children, available from the Batavia high school athletic department. Coach Bob Clousson, named Clermont County Coach of the Year, led the varsity to 20 straight wins before a loss to Williamsburg. The varsity earned two all star selections, the reserve team won its tournament, and the junior high squad took third in the county junior high tourney.

Clermont County Jury Indicts 17 in 22 Cases

The Clermont County grand jury issued 17 true bills in 22 cases after hearing 39 witnesses. Indictments include second degree manslaughter, burglary related offenses, and stolen vehicles. Several cases were ignored by the jury and arraignments set for 10 am Monday in Common Pleas Court.

Williamsburg shocks Batavia 60 58 to claim the Clermont County basketball title at Glen Este. Irvin leads with 19 points while teammates Sammons Tarvin and Marshall score in double figures. Batavia’s Ogletree pair pace the Rams with 27 and 15. Williamsburg also earns district tourney berth against Lockland.
