Clermont County Commissioners near completion of plans to set up nine temporary veteran housing units funded by a state housing fund. They have reviewed multiple sites across the county and tentatively chosen locations for most units. The board agreed to advertise for posts used in construction as units are leased and erected.
Wayne Young opens a wallpaper and paint store at Third and Main Batavia after purchasing the Dial property from Cliff Pancher. He will also continue contracting papering and painting with 16 years of experience. He served in World War II with the Topographic Engineers in Europe and the Pacific, discharged as Technical Sergeant after two years. Prior to Batavia, he and his family lived in Summerside.
A Home Demonstration Meeting led by Miss Joy May Warner will be at 10 am Thursday March 6 at the Williamsburg School. Ladies urged to attend bring a covered dish and service. The Clermont County Real Estate Board also meets March 6 at 6 PM at Homestead Inn Milford Ohio.
In Summerside at Mr. and Mrs. H Born's home on February 22, 1947, Evelyn married Guy Howe in a single ring ceremony conducted by Rev. O W Robbins. Attendants were Flor ence Hatfield of Dayton Kentucky and Carroll Howe. Mrs Elias Whitt sang I Love You Truly and O Promise Me.
John P. Friend Jr of Batavia is named head of the 1947 American Red Cross Finance campaign. He serves as director of the Clermont County chapter and chairs the Red Cross training committee. The drive, running March 10 to March 31, aims for a $9,880 quota allocated among townships such as Batavia Franklin Goshen Jackson Miami Monroe Ohio Pierce Stonelick Tate Union Washington Wayne and Williamsburg.
Batavia Grange honored couples observing anniversaries and weddings in February at its last meeting. The ladies cut wedding cakes in tradition. The Grange meets at 7 p.m. March 7 in the U B Church social rooms for a potluck supper inviting members and friends.
The case of Jessie Laub versus the Board of Review of the Unemployment Compensation is tentatively scheduled for Clermont County Common Pleas Court on March 7. Plaintiff attorney Sterling Brown represents the claimant seeking unemployment benefits after being offered other work she deemed unsuitable. Judge Harry Britton will travel to Brown County to hear cases on March 5 and 6, and will return a week later.
U S Army Recruiting Station at Georgetown sets weekly interviews in Batavia every Monday 10 to 12 am for young men exploring Regular Army service. Applicants receive transport to Cincinnati for exams and to Columbus for physicals. Sergeant Charles Cramer leads the temporary Batavia office.
The American Guernsey Cattle announce the election of Henry C. and Emma Weber of Colonial Acres Farm New Richmond Ohio to membership. Their herd of registered Guernseys reflects a farm aligned with a national body of over 30 000 breeders that traces the breed to Guernsey Island and supervises production tests and marketing through Golden Guernsey Inc.
William Marcum was fined $25 and costs after appearing before Mayor A C Munden on charges of possessing four gallons of unlabeled whiskey. Sheriff Clyde Dericks and Deputy Marvin Bissantz found the liquor at his home. Marcum testified he obtained the whiskey by draining empty containers at the National Distilleries plant in Carthage, where he works.
Three minor boys were in an accident on State Route 222 when their car ran into a ditch near a covered bridge. Sheriff Clyde Dericks investigated and found the youths under the influence of alcohol. An ongoing inquiry aims to determine how the liquor was obtained for them.
Clermont County Dairy Service Cooperative sponsored a meeting in Amelia to discuss a practical artificial insemination program for local dairies. A veterinarian was engaged and the program is planned to start soon while other dairy production issues are reviewed. Speakers included R. H. Kellogg and R. R. Starbuck. Officers are Elmer Norris president and R. F. Turner vice president.
The case against Jehovah Witnesses arrested for selling literature without a license in Batavia was dismissed by Mayor A. C. Munden after a rival Ohio case failed at the Court of Appeals, leading to local charges being dropped.
Clermont County R F D visits Ralph and Mable Schatz at the junction of S R 132 and 125 to learn how their family turned goat keeping from a health aid for children into a hobby. The Schatzes once raised up to 20 registered goats including Toggenberg Saanen Nubian Alpine and Merino, with Doc Schnatz noting feed needs and preferences for hay including alfalfa and weeds for grazing.
New Feldman Building opens to the public with a grand opening week March 1 to 8 at 2 p m at the Farm and Home Center near Milford. Donald R Florea says the center replaces a fire destroyed building and will house a frozen food locker plant store appliance center and farm equipment displays with tours of the slaughtering and processing plant plus a cooking school and film demonstrations.
Batavia wins Clermont County basketball championship and earns a shot at the Four-County Tournament in Cincinnati set to start Thursday at Xavier Field House versus West Chester. New Richmond takes third after beating Amelia. 43 teams entered the event with Batavia beating Goshen in overtime earlier.
