Scouts Plan Special Program at Mt Camel Glen Este

A special program is planned for the Mt Camel Glen Este area to benefit Scouts with entertainment and a school event on February 27. A 7:30 p.m. volleyball game features Mt Carmel Glen Este girls vs Milford girls, followed by a basketball game between Mt Washington Methodist Church team and Mt Carmel Glen Este boys, concluding with entertainment and refreshments.

The Clermont County Real Estate Board held its regular monthly meeting on February 6 at the Homestead Inn in Milford Ohio. A new broker, Mr R L Wall of Batavia, joined the board, increasing membership to 18.

Community Farmers Institute drew over 2000 attendees in Amelia

More than 2000 people attended the Community Farmers Institute held in Amelia last Thursday and Friday. Nellie Mattox was reelected secretary treasurer for the twentieth year. Officers named for the coming year include Carl White as president Alfred White as vice president Elizabeth Huling as hostess. Highlights included a talk by Donald Calhoun of Williamsville a St Bernardette Mission chorus performance a rural fire protection panel and a “Better Living for Clermont County” discussion. Batavia Band performed as did a magic show style show fiddling contest and a talk by Cincinnati Councilman Rolin Everett.

Five members of the Jehovah Witnesses face a village trial after being arrested Saturday by Police Chief Col onel for selling pamphlets within Batavia without a license. They were released after posting bond for appearance. a prior warning had prompted the group to leave canvassing without a permit.

Courier Receives Honorable Mention at State Show

The Clermont Courier earned honorable mention in Advertising makeup and use of original columns at the Ohio State Newspaper Convention in Columbus last week. Six awards were given in one class and seven in the other. Ham sburg placed third in a special class for tabled newspapers. About 300 weekly Ohio papers exist.

The Winalesby Kennels of Batavia earned major Schnauzer wins across Florida and Maryland leading to a sweep at Westminster in New York. Champion Volzeck repeated Best Schnauzer honors while Skulda and Rand the Strong took top prizes in open and winners classes, with Skulda crowned Best of All the Females. Chief of Staff from California competed, heightening the national prestige.

Untaxed Liquor Found In Home

A Milford family faced a house fire on High Street with Mrs. Gillard saved by her husband. The blaze, likely from a defective flue, gutted the second floor and caused heavy damage on the first. Police later recovered four gallons of unlabeled whiskey from William Marcum’s premises near Mulberry. Marcum and a nephew await charges as a state liquor representative investigates. George Woods paid a $25 fine for assault and battery in Batavia.

Clermont County Boy Scouts displayed a Scale Model Farm Layout at Music Hall winning a Blue Ribbon and Invitation to display at the Ohio State Fair. Judge Orville Halbisch led the Clermont County exhibit with 51 units judged by experts using a point system.
