Bata via O. E. 8. Chapter marks 30th anniversary

The 30th anniversary celebration Saturday night at the Masonic hall drew about 130 members and visitors. John Huntington led as master of ceremonies with remarks from Worthy Matron Louise Lytle Anstead and Mrs. Ralph Faohr of Williamsburg. Mrs. EB S. Rush reviewed the Chapter’s history from founding to today. Five charter members attended as well as UB quartet performances and individual numbers. The event closed with a substantial lunch and festive decor. the lodge room showcased a new carpet funded by Chapter Masons Blue Lodge and O E 8.

Another Accident on Route 74 Claims 30th Victim in Summerside Area

Charley Danberry of Batavia, son of Tom Danberry, died as a slick road near Summerside caused a crash last Monday. His car veered, leaving him with a broken nose and multiple facial cuts amid a badly damaged vehicle. The writer questions remedy for such roadways.

Ex Superintendent Moorehead 90th Birthday Dinner

Thomas W. Moorehead former County Home superintendent of Williamsburg celebrated his 90th birthday with a family dinner on February 17. Attendees included Joseph Paterson K E Sentman and spouses Wm Hauck Olin Ashton and families Rev Sentman Dr Simeon E B Moorehead and others. Five great grandchildren attended. American Legion gave a bouquet. Moorehead and the Rev. Sentman are the last Civil War veterans in Williamsburg. Daughter Paterson arranged the meal. Moorehead has read the Courier for over 70 years.

The annual meeting of Clermont county Trustees and Clerks Association will convene March 4 at 1 p.m. in Batavia. Officers will be elected and important business will be transacted. All Trustees and Clerks are requested to attend.

Three Ladies Hurt In Withamsville Collision

A party of ladies returning from Cincinnati was in a wreck Saturday night when 13 year old Lewis Carver of Ten Mile backed from a filling station into a car driven by Carl Fisher of Amelia. Mrs Jane White and Amelia Hall sustained serious injuries along with Marie Weaver who was cut and bruised. Both drivers escaped harm. Dr J W Mott of Amelia attended the injured.

Children Hurt in Willowville Auto Incident

Betty and Bobby Smith, ages three and seven, children of William Smith, were injured Sunday morning while walking along State Route 74 near Willowville. An auto driver took them to Batavia for medical care. Bobby went home, Betty to General Hospital for examination. Betty had head and back injuries, Bobby severe body bruises.

Mrs Adelaide Tribble Died In Springfield At 92

Mrs Adelaide Tribble, formerly of Williamsburg, widow of William Tribble, died in Springfield last Saturday at age 92. Funeral and burial will be held in Springfield on Tuesday with Elton Elrod and Mesdames Will Elrod C A Frazier and E S Rush of Batavia in attendance.

Clermont County Medical Society backs coroners licensed physicians bill

The Clermont County Medical Society passed a resolution praising State Representative John J. Hayden for introducing H R No. 100 to require county coroners to be licensed physicians in good standing. The resolution also directs copies to Hayden, the district's state senator, and local papers.

Williamsburg Wins Clermont County Title in OT

Williamsburg edged Milford 40 to 37 in overtime to claim the Clermont County high school basketball title at Bethel. The win gives Williamsburg its first county crown as both teams advance to the sectional at the University of Cincinnati March 8 and 9. Milford led 32 29 at the end of three quarters before Williamsburg tied it and forced OT, with Stor er and Steward delivering key baskets.

Test Dates Set Announcement by County Superintendent

The office of the County Superintendent of Schools lists test dates set by the State Department of Education. The High School Senior test occurs March 28 at Batavia School Building. The eighth grade test happens March 29. The elimination test for high school subjects to select a county team for Miami University is on April 12. District State Test is at Miami University on May 4.

Moscow D. of A’s to Sponsor School Dance

The Daughters of America Lodge in Moscow will sponsor a dance at the school auditorium on March 8. Kirkley’s Ohioans will provide the music. Admission will be 15 and 25 cents.

Six Stills Raided in First Bootlegger Crackdown

Six stills and six men were seized in a coordinated state and federal raid with county officials. Sheriff G. G. Auxier led the operation with deputies Tom Brooks and Frank Abbott and officers C. J. Gerard and R. L. Scheels. Suspects named include George Brusaw Felicity Peter Mayer Charles Leffler Callion Van Winkle Joe Lang Robert Guinn.

Parochial School Aid Bill Advances in State Senate

Senator John R. Davis of Cleveland filed a measure to fund parochial schools and non-state supported colleges and universities. The plan would give 17.50 dollars per elementary pupil 25 dollars per high school pupil and 50 dollars per college student. Supporters say Governor Davey backs the plan and the Senate has enough votes though six House votes are needed. The governor is expected to rally those votes to fulfill a campaign pledge of state aid for all schools.

Education Legislation and Inspiration Form Anti Liquor Crusade

Rev B D Prichard of the Anti Saloon League led a Batavia church rally on a three fold effort education legislation and inspiration to battle liquor. Captain F W Wilkinson outlined flaws in local option and recounted Salvation Army experiences in London urging continued fight against the drink. Over 60 delegates attended the afternoon session and about 150 joined the evening rally.
