Auditor Disappears As County Seeks Answers

County Auditor B L Ketchum who was to retire March 9 vanished last Wednesday after countersigning about 25000 in relief bonds. Prosecutor Roberts announced the bond sale would stand and an audit by two state examiners is underway with Blythe Jones the incoming auditor.

Son Assaults Father in Coontown Leads to Jail Hearing

Andrew Cordry 54 is jailed on charges of assault and battery against his 82 year old father John Cordry at their Coontown home. The elder Cordry died Tuesday at Mrs Birdie Hill's home. A Cincinnati autopsy was held Tuesday. Andrew was bound over to the grand jury in 1000 dollars after a Williams burg hearing before Squire John McKeever.

Amelia Schooles to Stage Entertainments Friday

Amelia schools Fourth and Fifth grades present Cinderella and the Golden Slipper operetta at 7 30 p m on Friday March 8. Sixth grade offers Mock Trial the Case of Mudge versus Pudge and the Baby Show at Pineville. Admission five cents ten cents.

County School Voucher Distribution For 1933 34

Vouchers totaling funds from liquid fuel tax and sales tax were received February 28 for county school districts. Grants are $2 per pupil based on average daily attendance, with $1 from liquid fuel tar and $1 from sales tax. District amounts include Batavia 300, Edenton 140, Jackson 322, Minoa 364, Newark 50, Perinton 1, Batavia Villages and various consolidates listed with amounts from 94 to 948. districts include Amelia Consolidated, Batavian Villages, Goshen Consolidated, Milford Village, Moscow Consolidated, Stowell, Willlamsburg.

Pioneer Gene Judd Dies at 83 in Brazier Community

Daniel A. Judd of Brazier died Friday night at age 83. He leaves a widow, three sons and one daughter. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Batavia M R church, with burial at Olive Branch. He was a son of the late Stephen Judd of Brazier.

Davis Hill Road Opens After Major Repair Flaw

Davis Hill on the pike between Batavia and Hamlet has developed a large fissure after recent rebuilding. Travel remains on the inside as the hill continues to cause concern. Significant funds were spent on upkeep with hopes the problem was solved.

75 Years a Doctor Celebrates Milestone in Bethel

Dr. W. E. Thompson of Bethel marked 75 years as a practicing physician on March 1 and continues treating patients. He recently recovered from a fall and expects to reach 100 years in July. Having attended about 1800 birds and never lost a mother, his career is noted for its longevity and dedication. The doctor was born in the red brick Bethel house once occupied by ex Auditor Wm. A. Clermont County Township Trustees Elect New Officers

The Clermont County Association of Township Trustees and Clerks held its annual meeting on Monday March 4 with strong turnout. Officers elected include Harry Clark as chairman Ed Bohmar as vice chairman and Chas Workman as secretary treasurer.

Visits Jail Sunday With Nine Babies In Arms

The county jail held 14 inmates. On Sunday many visitors came and nine carried babies, suggesting several births occurred while inmates were detained.

Four Pleas Entered in Clermont Bootlegging Case

Judge Charles G. White in Common Pleas Court fined and jailed four of seven men arrested in a Clermont illegal whiskey drive. Joe Lang Bantam received 200 fine and six months jail with jail term suspended on payment. C Van Winkle Bethel 200 and costs and six months with fines suspended and three months jail. George Brusaw Felicity 100 and six months with four months suspended. Robert Guynn Pt. Isabel 100 and six months with four months suspended. Farm Groups Meet in Batavia on March 13

Clermont County delegates from Farm Bureau Grange and Pure Milk Association will hold an all day meeting in Batavia Wednesday March 13 with E B Baugh county agent noting attendees including C W Hammans R Q Smith and Russell Kimber. Discussion will cover current market conditions and the 1985 policy from the cooperative organization. Last year the former owned organization paid a 33 1 3 patronage dividend.

Bank Robbery in Williamsburg Linked to West Virginia Outfit

Four men robbed the Peoples Bank of Williamsburg in daylight taking about $600. The bandits, believed from Charleston WV, used a stolen car and fled toward Owensville after police pursued them. A child-napping incident linked to the group was also noted in Charleston.

Better Housing Group Set Meeting For March Fourteenth

New Ohio ruling on tearing sales tax stamps

The Ohio Tax Commission issued a Feb 28 ruling requiring vendors to tear prepaid tax receipts in two and deliver the consumer’s half after detachment to prevent reuse of receipts. The rule aims to ensure proper tax collection and accountability in transactions.

The Coop Pure Milk Shippers Ass n will meet Thursday evening March 14 at Batavia Court House to elect a district director. The district includes Clerman and parts of Brown and Highland counties. Jesse L. Jordan of Bethel is current director. Robert Scheiring, fieldman for the association and producer member of the Cincinnati Milk Control Board, will discuss recent activities. Baby Bonds Sell Fast in Local Sales Report

Postmaster Claude Coyle announced the first quota of Baby Bonds sold out in the first week and requested more. Denominations include 25, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 dollars sold at a discount with no yearly interest. Coyle reported about 1000 dollars in sales.

Williamsburg completes dam and seeks bids for fire equipment

The town finishes the dam for water supply and advertises bids for firefighting equipment. The stand pipe is in place and mains filled, with officials confident the current outfit plus planned additions prevent any fire from lasting long after water is applied.

More than 100 Clermont county GOP leaders attended a central committee dinner last Thursday at Milford in the Masonic hall. Speakers included Alfred Gus Karger of Cincinnati and George Bundy of Norwood. Mack Agin chaired. next meeting planned for Williamsburg around March 21 pending final date.

Fire destroys barn and livestock on Worth Love farm

A Sunday night fire on the Worth Love farm between Felicity and Higginsport destroyed the barn and 23 cattle four mules sheep and hogs 36 head small the fifth mule escaped badly burned Jess Phillips tenant owned stock a large amount of feed and a truck were lost the cause of fire is known and the property was partially insured

Auto Accidents Reported in Batavia This Weekend

Batavia saw three auto accidents in recent dates. Junior Doughman, a felon boy, collided with another auto at Fourth and Main. Helen Larkin and a stranger in a Ford collided near the Bell exchange building. Virgil Hammond in a Chevrolet from Amelia hit a Williamsburg bus. the bus back running board broke and the car was badly damaged. Provisions should be made for bus stops in every town.
