The Commercial Gazette prints a portrait of William Coffin Pinkham born Nantucket February 18 1810. Son of Captain Andrew Pinkham he moved with brothers to Clermont county Ohio. Pinkham farmed near Loveland after 1848 and wrote for the Courier with humor and vigor.

Fire destroys home of Henry Jones near Ek Lick
Last Wednesday Henry Jones and his wife left home with two small children in care. A fire started from a defective flue and burned the house to the ground before help could arrive. Neighbors plan a subscription to help build a new house.

A tale from Hillsboro describes elder Thomas Barry missing two church notices and mishearing a baptism and song book announcement. Believing the preacher meant selling song books, Barry offered to buy them from the superintendent for seventy five cents. The anecdote circulated widely in Harper's Bazaar and other papers.
