A Westerrn Star report details George J. Elsey in Wayne township who stole about $500 from his dying mother Mrs. Sarah Elsey and fled to Franklin in heavy intoxication. He missed his mother's funeral as he indulged in a debauch. neighbors condemned the act. The notice also lists an auction by J. L. Maron in Owensville on March 1 for horses cattle hogs and farm implements.
The Courier recalls a case where a horse owned by Mr. Moore captured a thief in New Vienna. Philip Hansborough was acquitted after a trial last week amid belief the theft may have been a lark. The piece notes justice for the horse would be fitting.

Seventeen year old Little Eddie Hitch, son of Mrs. William J. Stickel of Lindale, was injured in a woods accident when an axe glanced and cut the ankle severing arteries. He tied a makeshift tourniquet with his handkerchief and a stick, kept alive until help arrived hours later.
