Clermont County towns prepare to launch a War Fund campaign to raise 17300 for the Red Cross. Township quotas cap at 8200 per township with leaders pledging rapid collection. Volunteers coordinate with chairmen and urge residents to donate at work or home addresses.

Ralph Lemon an Owensville school teacher has been hired part time to help Clermont County 4 H Clubs with a 1943 home front youth war effort. He will teach by day and work evenings weekends on projects focusing on food production use and preservation and conserving clothing and equipment. Enrollment aimed above 1000 with emphasis on youth helping parents in the war effort.
The United States Civil Service announces a four class postmaster position at Newtonsville Ohio with possible vacancies elsewhere. Exams will be in Batavia Ohio and applications close February 26. Last year’s pay was 605 dollars. Applicants must be 21 to 64 and reside in the local post office territory.
The Sunday guests of Mrs. Fred Weinmann and daughters were Mr. Robert Rigthmeir of College Hill Miss Ruth Juenling and Mr and Mrs Charles Daniels of South Cumminsville.
Gerald Wehrung two and one half, son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Wehrung of Center Street Milford, remained in Children’s Hospital Cincinnati after a fall from his grandfather’s car near Clark Coal Co. His mother grabbed for him and fell to the road. The child suffered a skull fracture. Mrs Wehrung was bruised and scratched.
Nick Repman husband of Johanna Repman and father of Nick Repman U S N died at his Mt Holly home on Feb 20. Funeral services were conducted from Moore funeral home on Feb 23 at 2 pm with interment at Mt Moriah cemetery.
Donald Austin aged 19 from Blairville remains in serious condition after an accidental self inflicting gunshot to the left shoulder while cleaning a revolver. Dr W H Gasin of New Richmond ordered transfer to Bethesda Hospital Cincinnati.
Mrs Elizabeth Philhower Good win widow of George Goodwin former Recorder of Clermont County died at her Perintown home Friday February 19 Funeral services were conducted at Monroe funeral home Milford Monday February 22 at 1030 a m Interment Greenlawn Cemetery She is survived by daughters Louise Biddlecomb of Perintown and Ruth Gault of Ann Arbor Michigan
Farm machinery dealers mechanics and farmers will meet in the Batavia Court House Conference Room on Tuesday March 2 at 1 00 p m standard time or 2 00 p m daylight time to discuss keeping current equipment running amid wartime shortages. Fred Levin and Chet Schiller of the Detroit Socony Vacuum office will lead lubrication and maintenance discussions aided by a film Harnessed Horsepower. E C Saxton chairman of the Clermont County Farm Machinery Rationing Board will discuss new machinery rationing. Roy Battles County Agent will outline plans to expand custom and exchange use of farm machinery in the county. The meeting aims to help sellers repairers and users keep machinery in operation and includes record books and forms.
County commissioners announced all court house offices will stay on Eastern War Time for the summer, after consulting county officials on the matter.
Dedication services are planned Sunday at 2:00 PM in Monterey for an honor roll. Speakers include Judge Charles G. White of Batavia and Professor Joseph W. Evans, superintendent of Owensville schools.
More than 800 deputy registrars will sell 1943 automobile licenses in Ohio beginning March 1 with stickers displayed by April 1. No extensions allowed. 1942 steel plates must also be shown. War Department questionnaire required for truckers applying for licenses.
Clermont County Farm Bureau reports a new membership peak for the year with 287 farm families joined. Sam Bateman Roll Call chairman notes this exceeds 1942 by 47. 1943 membership may reach 300. Hospitalization and surgical insurance has paid $2,100 since July. 247 members hold the policy. Standing committees for 1948 are named by President W. R. Owen.
Hamer Lodge No 228 F and A M Owensville schedules its annual inspection for Saturday evening February 27 at 8 00. Roy Druhot Sardinia Sixth District Deputy Grand Master will serve as inspecting officer. All Masons are invited to attend and meet Deputy Druhot.

Columbus February 24 The state tax report shows an almost eighty percent jump in shoe sales for the week before rationing. Ohio sales tax receipts rose from 10 024 04 to 18 833 10. Clermont County collected 1 335.00 in the latest period vs 1 884.00 in 1942.
Henry A. Leachman Cincinnati District Manager of the Office of Defense Transportation warned operators who sold trucks buses or taxicabs that Certificates of War Necessity are not transferable and must be returned to the District Office. The new owner’s name must also be reported and gasoline coupons returned to local War Price and Ration Boards.
Batavia Grange will hold its annual banquet March 4 at the U B church starting at 6 30 P M E W T. Members are urged to attend for an evening of an instructive program featuring three speakers. Harold D. Nichols will discuss American Red Cross efforts and a main address will cover income tax issues for farmers.
Frank B. Hoggatt receives the January Man Of The Month honor from the county War Bond committee for his top work in Clermont County’s War Bond drive. He will receive a Minute Man citation from Standard Oil of Ohio as part of the War Savings program.
J. A. Ashton of Williamsburg organized a county level Farm Labor and Equipment Committee in Adams County with representatives from schools Agricultural Extension AAA Grange Farm Bureau and U S Employment. Walter Bauer was named chairman Roy Battles secretary and Ashton Hoggatt publicity. Next meeting set for February 25 at the AAA Office Batavia Ohio.
Clermont Sportsmen, Inc. will hold its regular monthly meeting at Mt. Holly American Legion Hall on Thursday February 25. Plans for a coon hunt will be discussed. Officers for 1948 are Donald Feagan president Harry Henning vice president and Clarence Lytle secretary treasurer. All members urged to attend.
The Office of Price Administration adds dried beans peas lentils and dried soups to the banned list. Groceries and delicatessens must halt sales until rationing begins March 1, per Charles E. Vance chief rationing attorney Cincinnati OPA office.
Clermont County residents must appear before local ration boards this week to declare canned goods on hand and obtain No 2 Ration Books for sales of canned fruits vegetables juices soups and condiments. Gasoline B and C books expire March 1 new applications required. price ceilings on five vegetables are enforced with price checks in major outlets.
