V Mail Letters Destroyed in RAF Crash Over Newfoundland
More than fifty thousand V letter mail items from American soldiers in England to U S relatives were destroyed when a Canada-bound RAF aircraft crashed in Newfoundland. The letters had been copied at the Army V mail station in England and were being sent to the United States by a later flight.

Woman killed as horse runs into car near Summerside
Mrs. Alice Meeks aged 32 died last Friday when the horse she rode bolted and struck a car on Highway 74 near Summerside. Carson Jones of Summerside drove the vehicle. his wife a passenger. Both Mr and Mrs Jones had minor injuries. Meeks leaves a husband and child plus two brothers and a sister. Coroner Sam White noted both horses were stabled at the couple’s Summerside farm.

Walter E. Rockwell of Perintown died Wednesday night at his son Dr. George E. Rockwell’s home in Perintown. He is survived by a daughter Thyrza Mack of St Louis and his widow Eva Beckley Rockwell.
