Fifty Years of Batavia M E Church Celebrated

The Batavia Methodist church marked its fiftieth anniversary last Sunday with 200 attendees. Rev A P Smith former pastor from Newtown delivered the sermon, choir and organist Miss Bess Walker performed, and Brice Hendrixson sang. Eli Speidel recounted the church history prepared by Miss Jennie Penn, as John Huntington led the afternoon session.

Former Batavian Teacher Dies in Denver

Mrs. Wm. B. Lloyd, formerly of Batavia and a public school teacher, died at her Denver home on February 18. She was a niece of Freda Kline and sister of Celia Lundregan of Glendale. Her husband, once a Bethel resident, was well known in Clermont county. Funeral held in Denver on February 21. She left many relatives and friends.

District Meeting At Batavia Odd Fellows Lodge

Grape Eaters Invite Clermont County Unit to Dinner

Clermont County members of the 32nd Infantry are invited to a February 24 dinner at Caproni's Restaurant Cincinnati. The event at 6 30 P M costs one dollar per person and reservations may be made by contacting Werner C Wulfekoetter at 1817 Myrtle Ave Cincinnati. A social session is promised for all Ohio Valley Grape Eaters who attend.

Clermont Grangers Visit Fairfield for Birthday Observance

Sixty nine Clermont County Grangers traveled to Fairfield in Butler County last Saturday for a social session with the Butler County Pomona Grange. A specially laid table marked birthdays in the first quarter. After business, Clermont presented a Neighbors program by Mrs. Rogers. Mr. and Mrs. Rathfus were honored with a slumber chair for nine years as deputies, presented by Joe Fichter, State Grange Lecturer.

Courier advocates a large Republican assembly at the O N G armory Batavia to organize candidates and strategies to defeat the current Governor’s office and cut taxes. County Administration Costs Only 8 Cents of Tax Dollar

Clermont County’s annual financial report shows total receipts of 806 452.30 with 765 336.05 paid out, leaving a year end balance of 131 044.28 and a net governing cost of 65 226.39 or about 8.51 percent of expenses. The county allocated 464 906.46 in taxes and fees, 45 903.12 from bond sales, and 295 615.72 from the state, while debt stood at 174 231.78 after paying 84 400.00 in bonds. total assessed value is 23 849 800.00.

The Clermont County High School tournament narrows to four teams after last week's gains. Goshen girls ousted by Amelia while Goshen boys beat Williamsburg 41 to 26. Upcoming games next Friday feature Milford vs Moscow and Felicity vs Amelia with Bethel hosting the finals Monday in Bethel.

Funeral services for Maria Werk at Lorado Church

Funeral services for Maria Werk wife of the late Alexander Werk will be held Wednesday February 20 at 2 P M at the Lorado Christian Church. She died Sunday at the home of her daughter Mrs Milton Van Frank in Terrace Park leaving a son E E Griswold of Lorado and the daughter. The J Isaac Maham Funeral home is in charge.

Surprise Cars Stolen At Batavia Armory Meet

Reports of school robberies in Bethel Amelia Felicity and Moscow plus a post office looting preceded two cars stolen Sunday night and a mysterious car fire Monday. Vehicles stolen include a 1932 black Chevrolet 4 door owned by Lester Wetts Bethel and a 1929 Chevrolet owned by Victor Wymer Williamsburg. Looted Loveland garage yielded radios electric sweepers batteries and tax stamps. Sheriff's deputies Tom Brooks and Frank Abbott lead the investigation with limited clues.

Clermont County Tuberculosis Association Meets in Courthouse

The Clermont County Tuberculosis and Health Association held an Assembly Room meeting on February 17 with members present. The Christmas Seal Sale committee chair reported $760 returned, county total up from prior years, and new officers were elected including President Adelaide T Jones and Treasurer Earle Kincaid. An advisory talk by Dr. W D Bishop from Darke County preceded plans for an active tuberculosis education program.

Evangelist Rev. La Verne Taylor Leads Montery Church Revival

Rev. La Verne Taylor of Springfield Illinois a Disciples of Christ leader will conduct nightly evangelistic services at the Monterey Christian Church from March 7 to 21. A Cincinnati Bible Seminary choir leader will direct singing. Taylor previously held a successful service here in fall 1914.
