Real Estate Tax Office Opens Monday in Clermont County

Clermont County Treasurer announces real estate tax collection begins Monday February 21 from 8 am to 4 pm weekdays and 8 am to 1 30 pm Saturdays. About 12 000 tax statements mailed. approx 170 000 dollars delinquent. Delinquent Tax Committee Director B N West and County Treasurer John P Friend Jr urge bring statements or include stamped self addressed envelopes for receipts. Appointments with Mr West via Batavia 1 or Bethel 87 numbers. aim to ease delinquencies and maximize collections.

Republican Meeting at Batavia Armory February 24

A county wide Republican meeting will be held at the Batavia Armory on February 24. Lunch will be served. The speaker will be named later. The previous meeting was a decided success and all Republicans are urged to attend.

Batavia Woman's Club to Meet for Educational Trends Talk

The Batavia Woman's Club will meet with Mrs. Daugherty on February 19. Educational Trends and Common Grammatical Errors will be discussed by a representative from the Adult Education Council of Metropolitan Cincinnati. Miss Helen Gregory will speak on adult education progress and services. The Oxford Movement will be discussed by Mrs. Horn.

Tax payment time is here again in county

County Treasurer John Friend Jr announced the mailing of tax statements will be completed this week. Real estate tax payments will be accepted from Monday February 21 through March 31, with strong anticipated collections after delinquents were notified.

Schools Fight Move to Eliminate Sales Tax in Ohio

W B Bliss of the Ohio Education Association warns that a constitutional amendment opposed by the Ohio Anti Sales Tax League would slice two thirds from the state public school fund and cut sales tax and cigarette tax revenues by millions. He notes local governments rely on sales taxes for over 25 million and schools could lose 32 million, threatening school terms to three to five months. The claim stresses the constitution should not be used to sweep away tax laws.

Clermont Cage Tourney Kicks Off In Amelia and Batavia

Clermont County boys and girls high school basketball tournaments begin this week. Boys open Friday at Amelia with Milford versus Batavia and Owensville against Moscow, then Saturday at Batavia. Girls start Wednesday at Amelia with Milford versus Bethel and Owensville versus Moscow, followed by Batavia on Saturday.

Luther Kestel Offered State Job as Inspector

Luther Kestel a Georgetown resident and former Brown county deputy auditor has been offered the post of inspector in the state bureau of public supervision and inspection. He is deputy auditor of Clermont county and has not decided on the offer.

Orpheus Club in Second Concert at Emery Auditorium

The Orpheus Club Cincinnati Men's Glee Club presented its second concert Thursday in Emery Auditorium under conductor Dr. Thomas James Kelly. Soloist Dorothy Baker from New York impressed with a lyric soprano voice and vivacious style, especially in the Norwegian Echo Song and other pieces. Two encores drew strong enthusiasm from the audience. Clermont members include Brice Hendrixson, G. L. Smith, Russell Althaus, and Hugh Lanham. A special concert for Schoolmasters' Convention on the Roof Garden of the Hotel Gibson is planned, with the final winter concert set for April 21 in Emery Auditorium.

Legion Post Valentine Party At Armory

Members of the Frank Weaver Post American Legion and families will hold a Valentine Party Thursday night in the Armory at 8 oclock. The post has 53 paid members, above its 50 quota, Commander Irvin Kain announced. The auxiliary also exceeds its quota with 38 paid members of a 26 quota.

Batavia Hosts Large Clermont County Fruit Growers Meeting

The Clermont County Fruit Growers Association held its annual meeting at Batavia U B Church with over 100 attendees. C T Brown of Bantam was named president, and Albert Coombs of Amelia was re elected secretary treasurer, while Dr J H Gourley spoke on horticulture. The group urged cedar tree removal to combat cedar rust and noted opposition to rabbit releases in the county. Gilbert Himteyear and Arthur Brown of Bethel and M C Rouster of Williams Corner won fruit prizes.

Auto crash injures Goshen game travelers from New Richmond

A Ford V8 driven by Chas Tomlinson and six passengers from New Richmond rolled into a ditch between Kata V ia and Owensville after a Friday night trip from a Goshen basketball game. All occupants were unharmed seriously and were taken home by Ray Paul of Owensville. Iles' Garage of Batavia serviced the wrecked car. Goshen teams defeated New Richmond.
