Bethel Councilman Sues Police Chief Over Larceny Charge

Bethel Councilman William M. Duckworth, 24, sues Police Chief Robert E. Jones for 25300 with 300 compensatory and 25000 punitive damages. He says Jones acted with malice to humiliate him after a auto larceny charge was dismissed for lack of probable cause. Duckworth was detained, photographed, fingerprinted, and released on recognizance bond after a Jan. 25 court appearance before Judge Chris Rosenhoffer. The case highlights internal Bethel disputes and the officials’ cooperation duties.

Cleanup Bids Sought On Dam Area Near Meldahl Locks

Congressman William H. Harsha announced the Corps of Engineers will invite bids for environmental cleanup at Capt. Anthony Meldahl Locks and Dam on the Ohio River in Clermont County. Estimated cost under ten thousand dollars. work includes cleaning, grubbing, grading, seeding near the lock entrance. Bid notice to proceed about March five with bids opened about April three.

Parson Awaits Transfer To Ohio Prison

John M. Parsons of Milford stays in Clermont County Jail awaiting transfer to the Ohio Penitentiary to serve seven charges involving stolen cars. Judge Ralph A. Hill imposed concurrent 15 year terms with $1,000 fines on two counts of selling stolen cars, fines suspended pending parole. Parsons eligible for parole after one year. probation report requested. Co-defendants Walter H. Spiess and Donald Woods also faced related charges and pleas.

Officials Reject Tap-in Fee Plea

Last week the board rejected waiving a tap-in fee for 200 Grandview Apartments funded by the FHA. They proposed paying the fee over several years like other real estate assessments. The project, on University Drive near UC Clermont, involves four three story buildings tied to Harold Flannery et al and Showe Builders Inc., with a $2.9 million FHA loan at 1 percent.

Clermont County assistant superintendent Robert K. Slade earned the Freedoms Foundation 1972 Schoolmen Medal at Valley Forge for constructive work that supports America and responsible citizenship.
