Fire destroys Wishing Well Tavern in Perintown

Fire investigators probe a blaze at the Wishing Well Tavern and dance hall in Perintown that caused an estimated 62 000 dollars in damage. The 2 a.m. fire started under the dance floor near the front, with heavy smoke and structural features hindering crews from Day Heights and Owensville. About 20 to 25 patrons were inside. eight hours and 15 minutes of firefighting followed.

Remley Heads Funding Priorities Committee

Joseph L. Remley Jr was elected chairman of the lay advisory panel to Clermont County Board of Commissioners at an organizational meeting held Feb 8. The group aims to decide how to allocate $301 438 in Revenue Sharing Funds and will accept written requests by Feb 28 with a review set for Feb 22.

GOP Opens State Race Selections to All Qualified Republicans

Clermont County participants report the Republican Party will open candidate selection for state and national offices in 1972 to any qualified person. The plan, approved unanimously in Columbus, rejects backroom decisions and aims to recruit younger candidates across local, state, and federal races. A later meeting will expand committee membership to identify qualified contenders.

Courier Wins Hooper Award for Special Edition

The Clermont Courier earned First Honorable Mention at the 1972 Osman C. Hooper Newspaper Show in Columbus for its April 20 special edition tabloid Ulysses S. Grant Born to Serve His Nation. Hospital Commission Opposes Batavia zoning change plan

Amhurst Nursing Homes and Tropical Centers seek a B-1 zone change to develop 145 acres near the new Clermont County Hospital in Batavia Township, proposing a nursing home office building shopping center apartments and a discount store. The Clermont County Hospital Commission alone opposes the change citing potential noncompatible uses and traffic concerns.

New Richmond Voters to Decide Waterworks Levy

New Richmond residents vote Monday on a 2.25 mill waterworks tax levy to fund improvements over three years. If approved it costs $2.25 per $1,000 valuation and requires 10 percent matched funds. Board tours waterworks 2 to 3 pm, and a 3 pm public Q&A follows at the junior high auditorium.

Child Drowns In Pool In Mt. Carmel

Three year old Christopher Saldana, son of Mr and Mrs Jose Saldana, from Georgetown East Apartments, Mt Carmel, drowned in a pool around 2 pm Tuesday. His mother and grandparents were at 4464 Grandview, Mt Carmel, when the accident occurred. Sheriff Donald Watson and Dr Kirby Lancaster investigated with Union Township police and life squad.

Beechwood Inn plans Sheraton near Mt. Carmel with EDA loan

An EDA loan funds Beechwood Motor Inn Corp. to build a $1.8 million Sheraton Motor Inn at SR 32 and I-275 near Mt. Carmel. A 102 job project targets minority hires in Cincinnati area. Heritage Restaurant will run the lounge and GE Springer Inc. will manage lodging. Also notes a memorial service for Martha Sarrell and an Amelia PTA meeting with Dean Edith Peters as speaker.
