Mrs Lena Smith 85 Batavia Resident Dies at Home

Mrs Lena Smith of Batavia aged 85 died at her East Batavia home Friday night after a long illness. She was grandmother to Henry and Mary Smith and cared for by daughter in law Emma Smith. Funeral services will be held Monday at Wm Moore Funeral Home with burial in Union cemetery.

Four youths held for auto theft in Cincinnati case

Marshal Frank Perry arrested Wilbur Marcum 17 Anthony Baeno 16 Henry Crawley 17 and Eddie Lee 16 in New Richmond Saturday afternoon. They allegedly stole a 4 Ford V8 from Clem Schmidt 239 East 18th street Friday. The quartet were jailed in New Richmond and later sent to Cincinnati. They were nabbed while attempting to sell a radio.

Compromise Verdict In Ohio Grand Larceny Case

State of Ohio v Tru mad Boose and Mary Boose ended in a compromise verdict. Charles G White presided in Common Pleas last Thursday and Friday. Tru mad Boose drew 1 to 15 years for assault with intent to rob. Mary Boose 1 to 7 years in the Marysville reformatory. Hayworth lost 40 dollars in the robbery which he recovered. Attorney John Doyle defended. Prosecutor Frank A Roberts and Forrest E Ely prosecuted. Sheriff took them Monday morning to begin serving sentences.

A father and son banquet at Bethel Methodist church Monday night drew about 40 attendees. Rev Vernon Martin of Batavia Presbyterian Church gave the address titled Something To Give, followed by games and a supper served by the Rum Join Us class.

Batavia Schools Close Through March Amid Flu Orders

Batavia and nearby districts Amelia Felicity Bethel and Glen Este close schools until March 1 by school boards for flu mitigation. All public gatherings restricted and children barred from Amelia and Batavia picture shows until further Board of Health orders.

Henry E. Warren died at his Tampa Florida home on February 11. He was born and raised near Mt. Holly and was brother of Mrs. C. M. Edward and Mrs. B. L. Ketchum.

Anti Cant class gathers for February meeting at Myers Elston home

Twenty three members of the Anti Cant class met at Mrs Myers Elston on Thursday February 16. Mrs Spangler led the devotional and president Mrs Remley conducted business. Mystery Sisters for the year were chosen. A Rookwood vase was given to former teacher Mrs Anderson. The group enjoyed games and a luncheon. March meeting set at Mrs Long home with Miss Cade and Mrs Malott as co hosts.

Burns to Death of Mrs Luckett Holland at Williams Corner

Mrs Alice Luckett Holland aged 50 died when her Williams Corner home burned on Tuesday morning at about 6 a m. Browder Holland gave no details. She raised goats and sold milk. The house burned down after discovery and the body was burned beyond recognition. Undertaker Geo Monroe Milford handled the body. Sheriff Auxier and Coroner White investigated. Coroner's verdict: death by burns. Fire cause unknown.

County auditors report 12 cents out of balance over 21 months from September 18, 1936 to June 12, 1938. J M Phineas State Examiner found two errors in 16 444 warrants totaling 1 887 120 79 dollars with no duplicates. Warrants prepared by Louise Anstaett in the Auditor’s office.

Cover Maltby Ritefeld Last Week Wedding in Lexington

Miss Frances Nelson Maltby and Henry E. Cover wed at high noon in Lexington in a living room ceremony. The bride, daughter of Mrs. Lucian Maltby, wore a bridal gown with her four year old niece as attendant. The groom, son of Judge and Mrs. Nathan G. Cover, is a sports official and Electrolux manager. Milford and Goshen boys teams were selected as first and second from Clermont county for the Southwestern Ohio District Basketball Tournament based on past records. Amelia and Goshen girls earned county rankings and trophy authorization after school enrollments fell due to influenza and related absences.

Miss Maxwell Injured in Auto Accident Near Owensville

Clermont county Health Nurse Miss Margaret Maxwell was in an auto accident on Route 50 about three miles east of Owensville while returning from Lancaster. Her car skidded on a slippery road and overturned in a ditch. she escaped injury though the Ford coupe was badly damaged.

Scouters Host Surprise Farewell Dinner for Hubbard

Twelve Clermont county Scout Executive Committee members met at Bishop's Batavia Friday to honor J. L. Hubbard on moving to the Southwest District. John Friend organized the reception after dinner and Hubbard offered guidance on re registration goals and troop promotion as the group wished him success in Alabama.
