Legion Pushes New Bridges for Batavia and Williamsburg

Batavia and Williamsburg Legion groups back planning to replace two bridges on 74.91. Petitions are being circulated to the State Highway Department and the Governor. County Commissioners support the effort as the old structures are described as dangerous and past service.

Obituary: James Beagle of Union Township Dies at 75

James Beagle, a major Union township landowner, died Sunday night after a brief illness in his 76th year. Survived by two brothers John and Lewis, a sister Mrs Sallie Myers, and half sister Mrs Rose Miller. Funeral from Moore Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial at Olive Branch.

Mrs Emma Pennell is Claimed by Georgetown Obit

Mrs Emma Pennell widow of the late Judge W W Pennell died in Georgetown on Tuesday of last week. She was a daughter of Archibald McLain of Williamsburg and is survived by her brother Henry in Washington. Mrs Mary Waterfield aged 88 wife of Chas Waterfield died in Cincinnati February 10 after a two week illness. Burial at Shinkle Ridge. she leaves a husband and four children.

Fight over postmaster job at Batavia stirs Democrats

Democrats debate who should head Batavia post office as Washington reportedly allows current managers to stay until March 4. Potential nominees include W. W. Dewdney, S. O. Weaver, J. F. Hartman, T. L. Hamilton, Robert Woods, with Dale Tilton also willing if asked. Weaver may hold county committee endorsement.

County Trustees Organization Holds Annual Meeting in Batavia

The Trustees Organization of Clermont County held its annual meeting February 16 in Batavia. R. C. Knause was reelected president, A. R. Brown vice president, and Miss Minnie Snell secretary-treasurer. J. R. Thomas of Hayesville spoke on proposed state legislation affecting 138 townships and gas tax allotments. The group, formed in 1927 to secure township gas tax shares, notes 1932 receipts of 2,260 per township totaling 31,600 for all county townships, highlighting road needs on muddy rural routes under trustee supervision.

Meyers Given 10 Days Jail For License Plate Charge

A M Meyers of Loveland Maderna Pike near Loveland was sentenced to 10 days in jail and fined 50 plus costs after arraignment before Mayor Thomssen on driving with license plates issued to another. Mayor Thomssen noted Meyers was jailed previously for a similar Norwood charge. Meyers was arrested last Wednesday by Ranger R E Valentiner in Indian Hill.

Boys Basketball Traveling Tournament Opens Friday in Bethel

The season's event begins Friday night with Batavia versus Moscow at 8 pm in Bethel. Other games follow: Amelia vs Milford, Bethel vs Williamsburg, Felicity vs Goshen, Owensville vs New Richmond, and winners meet. Semis Saturday at 8 o'clock. finals Monday night. Batavia Woman's Club Hosts Shawl Pageant Program

Mrs. P. F. Jamieson welcomed about thirty guests for a Batavia Woman's Club event on February 18. Out of town visitors included Mrs. Hodges Milford and others from Cincinnati Louisville Stonelick Perintown Amelia Olive Branch Forestville. Musical features included piano solos by Mrs. Harmount and Miss Straus and a German song by Mr. Hahn. A Shawl Pageant directed by Mrs. Wiseman and Mrs. Bishop showcased seventy five shawls from India Algeria Singapore Spain and more with vivid costumes and songs. A lunch followed served by the hostess committee.

Woman Found Along Roadside Seeks Aid While Traveling

A Batavia woman found a color woman about 80 years old lying by a roadside near Milford. The traveler, from Alabama to Pennsylvania, was assisted by locals then by deputies and taken to Owensville, Hillsboro, and other towns for care and meals.

Auction Draws Strong Prices at Kotrosi Sale in Afton

The Saturday sale of Kotrosi at Afton drew a large crowd and fetched good prices. Corn sold for 85 cents per bushel and other items also brought solid figures. Auctioneer A. M. Ellis reported satisfaction with the results.

Milk Men Meet to Plan Union Management

A large gathering of milk producers from Ohio Indiana and Kentucky met at Batavia Armory last Saturday to form a union under management. J H Pollitt presided with C H Boyer temporary president E B Day secretary and Henry Frankenberg treasurer. J P Osborn explained the contract and operation of the proposed union. Indiana delegates reported strong milk market support and readiness to join. Several talks inspired attendees and many contributed to the expense fund and signed contracts.

Batavia Overrun by Unlicensed Dogs and Nuisances

In Batavia over the last ten days dogs, including out of town animals, have crowded streets with as many as 14 seen together. Residents urge a proclamation against dogs running at large to protect children, noting dogs and chickens become nuisances when unleashed.

Orchardists of the county will meet at Page Dawson's home near Hamlet on Route 125 at 1:00 PM Wednesday March 1 for discussion and demonstration of pruning fruit trees. County Agent Wilson says fruit growers are invited. Ohio State University expert C. Holland will share methods.

Locust Corner Grange held a Feb 15 semi monthly meeting at the School Auditorium with Milton Behymer as master and a later lecturers program. The Clermont Grange Valentine party featured singing reading and reminiscences with prizes and ice cream. Batavia Grange followed with a Valentine party and ice cream, March 2 next meeting.

Cincinnati Producers Annual Meeting Highlights Cooperation Gains

The Cincinnati Producers Cooperative Commission drew over 600 attendees as leaders urged farmer cooperation for better marketing and legislation. Speakers included Mayor Wilson and executives like Lloyd Nickels and J R Allgger. The group reported 32.2 percent of Cincinnati livestock market share in 1932 and $46,000 in refunds, totaling $222,925 over eight years, with a $128,000 reserve fund to secure future savings.
