A Batavia Williamsburg delegation urged the County Commissioners to back two new bridges badly needed in Batavia and Williamsburg. Petitions will circulate to gain State aid, then be sent for action. Also, Mt Carmel PTA meets Feb 17 at 2 pm with Founders Day activities and dues collection. lunch to follow.
The Batavia Woman's Club will meet with Mrs Jamieson next Saturday afternoon. The program includes Colonial Thoughts Shawl Pageant and guest day with Mrs Wiseman and Mrs Bishop. Music by Lenice.
Batavia Superintendent Stouder received a complimentary letter in January praising the water plant’s 1932 operation. Five year figures show improvements in mains cleaning leaks repairs reservoir upkeep and low chemical costs at 18.61 per million gallons, the lowest on record. The water is labeled highly pure and satisfactory by government specs and the plant remains in good condition with filter sands undeteriorated. The letter, signed by Clarence Balghean of Cincinnati, confirms Batavia residents enjoy a pure water supply.
A Batavia event titled Entertainment at the United Brethren was held Wednesday evening February 18. Proceeds benefit the Sixth Grade Class of Amelia. refreshments were served by Group No 8 Ladies Aid.
Clermont County mourns Frank A. Brown Batavia Postmaster and longtime public servant who died at his Wood Street home after a year of declining health. Funeral 2 p.m. Moore Funeral Home burial here. He served under Coolidge Hoover and held deputy sheriff and court clerk roles. He leaves daughter Wilma and son James. The Common Pleas Court last Saturday set aside the verdict in the George Groves will case finding the will invalid. A new trial is granted with no time yet set for the hearing.
Sheriff Auxier had arrested two tobacco thieves in Miami Township and jailed them. He took one man to the theft scene to help, but Dewey Baker seized the chance to escape and remains at large. This marks the first time a prisoner was moved from jail to assist in an arrest and failed to return.
Mrs. W. W. Franks hosted a surprise party Monday afternoon February 6 at her home in honor of her mother Mrs. Alice Preston. The Clover Progressive club ladies and close friends attended. Grandma Preston, age 80, remained central to conversations while guests exchanged keepsakes and enjoyed fruit salad cake and coffee.
Croswell oversees county relief payments and strikes from bills any items not allowed by a 26 000 bond issue for relief. A commissary system in New Richmond aided 140 families for a week at $60, with goods bought at wholesale prices and expenses donated. A Miami operation is planned, and Fred Croswell stresses cooperation to aid the needy.
