A Saturday benefit dinner at Summerside Methodist Church raised over $1,000 for the North Union Township Fire Department to aid rebuilding of the Summerside firehouse. About 750 residents and neighbors enjoyed a home baked pie feast and salads while church volunteers led the project.

Woman Honored for 33 Years Teaching Religion in Cincinnati Schools
Mrs. Lowell Bennet of Batavia received induction into the Quarter Century Club after a 33 year career teaching religion in Cincinnati public schools under the released time plan. The program, begun in 1918, allows students to take an hour weekly for faith instruction, and Cincinnati’s program is among the oldest weekday offerings nationally.

Owensville Garden Club Shows Colored Europe Slides

About 1786 county veterans and over 296000 statewide qualify for the Korean War bonus. Applications open April 1 at the county Veterans Service office. Maximum payment is 400 dollars, with 10 per month of active duty and 15 per month of foreign duty. Payments hoped to begin July 1957. Deadlines include June 25 1950 to July 19 1953 and January 1 1959 for records.

District Court Bar Exams Set for Clermont County Attorneys

Ridge Club Pool Construction Moves Forward
Ridge Club Inc. will begin building a $34,000 pool in Batavia on a six and a half acre site at Main Street head. American Construction Co. of Cincinnati, for National Pools, Inc., will construct the pool by late May 1957. The project includes a 35 by 37 foot pool with a 20 by 20 foot wading pool and additional facilities such as tennis badminton and shuffleboard with a picnic area.

Early Monday fire struck Ernest Kutman’s Sugar Camp Road home a remodeled one and a half story log house owned by Keith Oberman. Losses are estimated at 3000 for the house and 2000 for contents. Kutman and his wife and child escaped after being awakened at 3 30 am. He drove to Charles Clark’s home to call the Milford fire department. Creditors of Monterey Manufacturing and Supply Co. Batavia were notified of a meeting set for 11 am March 28 to finalize asset distribution.
