James H. Wooldridge, Amelia school superintendent, named executive head of the new West Clermont school district with an $8,000 annual salary and a two year contract. He will remain at Amelia until a consolidated high school is built. The board also named William Hovis of Williamsville to the consolidated board, replacing Raymond McCullough who resigns to take a Hamilton job.

A Batavian receives an Outstanding Man honor from Olean New York Jaycees after a night of celebration. The event followed a drinking session that ended in a fatal shooting in Covington Kentucky where Bud Jones shot William C Cook during a dispute over money and a knife threat. Police questioned Jones and released his wife and Walter Petticord while Myrna Wagner was briefly detained then released.
