Clermont County federation reports a 55 youth gain in Scouting activity for the year in the annual Boy Scouts of America summary. Cub and Senior Scouts rose while Boy Scouts fell. District Commissioner Orville W Halbisch lauds increased activity and predicts higher membership in 1948 due to more active Scouts and Scouters.
The Clermont Hotel in Batavia was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Haglage who reside here. Ownership transfers from Mrs. Edna Hugo who had been employed there for some time. The report notes Mr. Haglage was previously injured in an accident but has since trained in stenicing and related work.
The Batavia PTA card party held at the School auditorium on February 14 proved successful thanks to the efforts of Mrs. W. B. Moore and other workers.
From Tre Coun files a fatal explosion at the Washington City Navy Yard killed Mr Dally and injured many others amid a roomful of workers. The blast raised the roof and shattered windows while a report of high flour and pork prices from Cincinnati is noted.
The Williamsburg Relief Corps Widawake women plan a Washington's birthday celebration at their hall next Saturday from 10 AM to 10 PM. Activities include a Martha Washington luncheon featuring oysters meats coffee ice cream cake and fruit and a domestic table.
A 25 year milestone celebrated with local residents noting a couple's long marriage. Community figures gathered for a quiet observance on February 23 at a neighborhood church, recognizing dedication and shared years.
The Amelia Community Institute will be held in the Amelia School Auditorium Thursday and Friday March 7 8. An exhibit features quilts and items made from feed sacks 4 H corn and eggs Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts displays and pictures of service men Admission is free.
Clermont Soil Conservation District sponsors four forestry schools in Clermont County on February 26 27 28. Meetings set for 1 30 p m at L W Foster farm near Williamsburg 1 30 p m at Robert T Hance Farm near Loveland and 7 30 p m at Batavia with Boy Scouts hearing about forestry equipment. An emphasis on selecting power tools to boost woodland enterprise profits through proper management.
The Ladies of the VFW are scheduled for installation at Williamsburg with attendees expected to participate. The event aims to organize ongoing support activities and community service outreach.
A Chicken and Ham supper is scheduled at Amelia School Cafeteria at 5 30 Feb 27 by the Amelia Service Club. Any profits from the event will be used for club projects and community needs.
A $13,747.00 state reimbursement for county flood damage was transferred to the Gas Tax Fund. County Commissioners Sam Ausman Manly A Hill and Homer L Remley approved the move at the Court House. A claim to the state emergency board had been filed to cover the damage and a hearing on Gardner Lane Union Township was scheduled for March 8.
The First Baptist Church of New Richmond will dedicate its Sunday morning service at 9 30 a m on March 3 to honoring local war veterans. The service will salute ex service men and women and invite all members of the community to attend.
A Clermont County drive to fund Batavia area Boy Scout activities runs from Lincoln's Birthday through Washington's Birthday Week. The Rotary club leads the campaign with Russell Speidel Hugh Nichols Harold D. Nichols and Dr Claude B. as committees and treasurer. Gifts to Scouting are tax deductible per the Treasury Department.
The Parent Teachers Association plans a card party at Mt Carmel Glen Hate School Auditorium DP. Proceeds support PTA activities and student programs.
Salvation Army leaders plan a countywide Rural Service Unit to aid veterans and families in need. The Clermont County committee, chaired by Forest B. Byt with Robert Griffin as treasurer and Judge Barry Britton among members, coordinates medical care, clothing, shelter, and welfare aid through local agencies.
Veterans who face readjustment problems can meet counselor Mr. Doud today from 9 a m to 4 p m and tonight from 7 to 8 o'clock. He usually visits Thursdays but will stay over to accommodate those who cannot see him during the day.
The Mt Holly VFW post and its auxiliary plan a meeting tonight followed by a chili supper for members and guests.
A Washington dance organized by the Alter Society will take place Sunday evening February 24 in the Holy Trinity Church Hall. Muddy Creek Ramblers will provide music and the public is invited to attend.

Officials plan to provide details on procedures and feasibility, hoping to connect Mulberry and rural areas. Residents expect lower fire insurance rates and a new sanitary sewer district once water service arrives.
A car driven by Andrew Buerkle of Kansas failed to stop at Route 74 intersection causing a mishap. Police investigate the minor incident and check for injuries. Further details pending.
