Harry M. Tucker publisher of The Clermont Courier quits the state senate race after talks with Butler Warren Clermont and Brown County GOP leaders. He backs Hamilton’s George C. McCandliss for the Republican nomination while Warren County leans McCandliss and Tucker declines to enter a primary race.
At the Clermont County District annual meeting, 1946 officers were elected to lead Scouting efforts. Russell F. Speidel of Batavia is District Chairman for the third year, with Orville W. Halbisch as another district chairman and Wallace H. Maw as Field Scout ExecutiveSecretary. Other officers include Robert M. Adams Carmel Chairman of Organization Harold Nichols Batavia Chairman of Finance Al Kistner New Richmond Chairman of Health and Safety James McSurely Milford Chairman of Advancement Edwin Burger Batavia Chairman of Leadership Training and Dale Forney Williamsburg Chairman of Camping Activities. They will recruit others across the county to support Scouting activities.
Representative Edward O. McCowen of Ohio’s Sixth District urged restoration of the United States Employment Service to state control by June 30. The vote to set the deadline passed 254 to 128 after arguments that federalization since 1941 expanded central power and delayed state agency return.
A 1846 Courier item notes a man charged with murdering Mr. Huber, found dead on a road from Milford to Goshen. He was discovered by a fellow prisoner and released just in time to save his life.

Dr. Mortimer Herzberg of Cincinnati has arrived in New Richmond to ease a doctor shortage caused by the retirement of Dr. W. H. Gaskins last month.
Congressman Edward O. Mc Cowen of Ohio’s Sixth District plans flood protection discussions in Ripley. He will meet with local officials and Army engineers after a Ripley Kiwanis Club dinner to explain options, including possible relocation of town parts to higher ground at government expense.
Jos Brock prominent Amelia Republican leader returned home Saturday from Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati where he underwent an eye operation. He is reported doing fine.
Dr. George H. Hopson, consulting veterinarian for Laval Separator Co., will lecture at Batavia School Cafeteria on Monday evening February 18 at 8 30 about methods of fast milking and udder health. Hopson, a national lecturer, aims to help dairymen save labor and improve dairy health and efficiency.
Amelia high school first and second teams each secured two wins in the week. The second team beat Anderson 32 to 22 on Tuesday and Goshen 23 to 20 on Friday. The varsity edged Anderson 33 to 31 in double overtime and then overwhelmed opponents 97 to 22. High scorer in 7:80.
A shortage of trained personnel delays work at Ohio artificial dairy insemination associations. Ohio State University will host a February 14 23 training course with instructors from the University Experiment Station and Department of Agriculture. Dairy specialist C L Blackman notes benefits for state herds and explains enrollment prefers those with lab experience but is not essential.
The village, via council action, owns three acres across the East Fork for a proposed sanitary sewer disposal plant valued at about 60 000 dollars. James W Walker sold the tract for 2 000 dollars. Walter F Manion of Cincinnati draws plans with plans and estimates due April 1. Financing will be a revenue bond issue after final details. The council also surveys four streets for a storm sewer project costing about 60 000 dollars, to be funded by assessments.
A brother Frank Thiel and sister Gertrude Thiel Bennett file in Clermont County Court of Common Pleas to challenge the will of their father John Thiel. They claim the father lacked mental capacity when the will was made, which primarily leaves real estate worth about 5000 to Gertrude for her care of him. The siblings are the only surviving family, and the case seeks to set aside the probate document.
The Conservation Commission announces a new forest management program led by Belachian Hardwood Manufacturers of Cincinnati. The plan establishes tree farms in the Kanawha Forestry District with 25 co sponsors to increase lumber production.

Lloyd Whisner, Ripley warehouse auditor, says sales hold up despite tobacco quality shifts. With 8,375,000 pounds sold and 8,747,166 pounds total, receipts total $3,356,530.68 and averages rise to $38.37, while Friday’s average was $31.96 for 227,394 pounds.

The Community Institute of Williamsburg opens Monday February 18 at 10 a.m. with a Williamsburg school musical program and opening address by Mrs. Hugh Ash. Sessions feature educational talks by Mrs. Charles W. Peters of Mifflin Ohio and sessions led by W. W. Hamilton, County Farm Agent, plus prizes donated by village merchants.
Teddy Studer thirteen son of Mr and Mrs Eldon Studer of Wood Street Batavia is recovering at Good Samaritan Hospital after being struck by a car at Market and North Streets last Saturday at 7 pm. He suffered broken legs and a compound fracture of the knee requiring a silver plate.
The Honorable Orville W. Halbisch of Batavia was named District Scout Commissioner in charge of area operations. He noted Scouting’s past success and the goal of a coordinated organization with shared authority. A February 1 meeting commissioned several volunteers including Amelia, Basco, Paul Biffle, and others to oversee Milford and Mulberry.
