Sheriff Thomas Brooks warns that payoffs are being made in race horse machines punch boards and other mechanical devices in public places in the county. The warning states gambling devices will be confiscated and owners and operators prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law under Ohio law.
New Richmond routed Batavia 41 to 14 to snap a five game Batavia winning streak. Calloway led the Rivermen with 14 points and Feiler added 12 as New Richmond built a 17 to 1 lead after one period and coasted. Batavia’s Hoderline left early, Singleton led Batavia with 7, and Milford contest looms this Friday in Batavia.
An apology explains a misreported plea in a burglary case. Roy Norris was the guilty party while Ed Windsor, husband of Ethel Windsor, was acquitted of burglary and found guilty only of petit larceny. The county employee who supplied the information caused the error.
Frank Hitchcock and Forrest Edwards, prominent Amelia residents, were in a collision five miles north of Kentland Indiana on Saturday evening. George P Phillin of Appleton Wisconsin drove into Hitchcock’s truck after clipping a berm. Mrs Phillin died in the crash. Hitchcock suffered multiple injuries while Edwards had a fractured neck and leg. They were taken to Jasper County Hospital and were resting comfortably.
The Past Masters Association of the Sixth Masonic District will hold its annual meeting at the Masonic Hall in Williamsburg Ohio on February 27. Howard Wilson Deputy Clerk of Courts of Hamilton County will speak and chair the Legion committee on Subversive Activities. A banquet at 7 30 with music follows. all present and past masters invited.
State Game Protector Edgar Anstaett reports 278 Missouri rabbits released in Clermont County. They arrived from Clinton and are Tularemia free. Releases covered all 14 townships outside a 3 mile orchard buffer, easing farmer concerns about orchard damage.
Miss Eveleen Boles, bride elect to Mr Paul Channell, was honored at a Monday evening miscellaneous shower hosted by Miss Helen Wolf. Attendees included Miss Boles and Mrs Allan T Boles, with games, valentines exchange, and refreshments of ice cream and cake.
In Judge Charles G. White's Common Pleas Court the jury found Ethel Windsor guilty last Friday. She received a 30 day jail term and a $100 fine with no suspension.
Attorney Forest E. Ely was appointed by the Court to defend the unidentified woman. The announcement notes the assignment and the ongoing legal proceedings.
Three months into the local draft effort two boards report progress. Board No. 1 has mailed 642 questionnaires with several men inducted deferred or out of consideration. a March 6 call is anticipated. Board No. 2 has sent 700 plus questionnaires and classified many, with eight men to be called March 6 and five already volunteering.
Ohio CCC plans four intermediate enrollments in 1941 beside regular quarterly enrollments set for January April July and October. Intermediate enrollments will occur in February May August and November to boost camp strength. Clermont County Batavia Court House invites young men to apply for February 18 to 28 1941 CCC intake.

The Junior Women To Met The Junior Women's Club will gather Thursday February 20 at Mrs Paul Blochers home. Guest speaker Miss Thayman from Shillito's will address the group.
Mt. Carmel Glen Este PTA hosts a Founders Day program at 8 p m in the schoolhouse. A parent teacher quiz led by Mrs A C Roslow and a historian talk by Mrs O W McBride highlight the agenda. Amelia Eastern Star meets Feb 24 at 7 30 p m with Mothersingers, president Mrs L G Jones in charge and a social hour to follow.
W Hensey Howland of the Rotary Club of Batavia Ohio toured Rotary International headquarters in Chicago. The staff of 180 serves 5 000 clubs with 210 000 members across 75 regions and handles multi currency transactions and multilingual contacts. They publish The Rotarian and Revista Rotaria and are arranging the 1941 Rotary International convention in Denver next June.
Edward Leslie Fisher 81 widely known band leader died Friday at Christ Hospital Cincinnati. He led bands in Bethel Williamsburg Feesburg Wigginsville and Mt. Crab over 50 years and taught 40 years at Lakin Chapel Sunday School. Services were held at Kennedy Funeral Home Bethel.
The sheriff captured two Canton youths, Mark Wakeley 16 and Matthew Prete 15, at the county jail awaiting home placements. Junior Henderson Smoky Raper and Clifford Smith were taken for pilfering at Pringle’s Camp in Iron. Henderson is on bond. a hearing before Judge Charles G. White is set for today. William Curliss was detained for desertion from the army and ordered back to Camp Shelby, Mississippi.

Weaver American Legion Post in Batavia Ohio will raise two flags at the Church of St Thomas More on Shaler Road Williamsville on Saturday February 22 at 2 p m The Legion Post will present the outdoor flag and the Post Women s Auxiliary will present the indoor flag Parishners and friends are invited A light lunch will be served by St Mary s Ladies Society in the church basement
The Service Class will serve a chicken pie supper in the basement of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church on Friday evening February 21 from 5 00 p m for 50c. Everyone is welcome.
Arrangements were completed for the funeral of Dr. E. 8. Haas 53 a Clermont County physician of 25 years who died at Bethesda Hospital Cincinnati Monday February 17. He lived in Marathon and leaves his widow Catherine Haas and four siblings in the East. Services Wednesday at 2 pm Marathon Methodist Church with body in state from 1 pm Burial at Milford Cemetery.
The Clermont County Basketball Tournament will be held again in Williamsburg, praised for its lighted floor and ample seating. First round games kick off Wednesday February 26 with Milford vs Goshen and Batavia vs New Richmond, followed by a Saturday schedule and a Monday final between bracket winners. Officials are Ed Burns and Angus King.
Governor Brick er and Hal Sours approve 1942 plate colors with white on green for public cars and green on white for state cars. Production starts at Ohio penitentiary with 2.3 to 2.5 million tags planned. 1941 tags begin sale March 1 and renewals due by April 1 with no extension.
