Owensville council did not reappoint John W. Bauer as mayor after his resignation over a misbelief he could not sell life insurance while in public office. Bauer demanded 100 citizens petition for his return. council nominated Don Waits but tabled action. Herman Schmid to step down as interim mayor pending a council vote.

Ministers To Map School Bend Drive

On Feb 5 at Glen Este high school the Steering Committee for Better Schools for West Clermont met with six divisional chairmen to plan enlisting citizen support for a 2.68 mill school levy. The levy would fund 93 new classrooms and eliminate current split sessions. Attendees included Rev Robert Chesnut Rev John Benen Rev Gerald Lach Rev Elliott Horton James Wooldridge Henry Arnett Mrs William Charles Rev David Miller Albert Nutgrass Rev Dallas Eubanks and Mrs Ruth Erhardt. An executive committee divisional chairmen and 36 precinct chairmen meeting will be held Feb 17 at Amelia high school at 6:30 for a dinner and canvass instructions.

Clermont Health and Welfare Committee to Meet on Feb 14

The Clermont County Health and Welfare Committee will convene at 8:15 p.m. on February 14. Attorney Flack Douglas of Milford chairs the meeting which will review two health and welfare subjects. The Samaritans social work group and the impact of the recent vocational education bill are among the topics.

Clermont County announces Area chairmen and captains for the Heart Fund drive ahead of Heart Sunday February 23. Volunteers will canvass townships to raise funds and share information on feast diseases, with events including bowling tournaments and Coffee Day at local venues.

County Hoop Tourney Set to Begin This Friday

Clermont County basketball tourney starts Friday at Glen Este high school gym under Charles Carlisle and Joe Barrieri. Games include Glen Este vs Williamsburg, Goshen vs Bethel, Amelia vs Felicity, and Batavia vs Newtonsville with championship set for February 22. Reserve tourney begins February 15 with Felicity vs Batavia and Williamsburg final on February 21.

Clermont County eyes sewer system bid as fiscal agent sought

Clermont County Commissioners expect Friday acceptance on a proposal to serve as fiscal agent and bid on 1.609 million dollars in bonds to finance part of a 3.100 million dollar sewer system in Union Township. Federal grants total 1.574 million with plants and four laboratories included.

Fear obstacle to cancer education in Columbus meeting

University of Wisconsin Medical School professor Robert J. Lamp told more than 400 American Cancer Society volunteers in Columbus last weekend that public fear of the word cancer blocks education and cure efforts. He urged applying research to the lay public and noted the need to address cigarette and lung cancer links during a closing press interview with Dr George E Moore of Roswell Park Memorial Institute.

Village May Get Amphib Vehicle in Civil Defense Plan

Moscow village plans to inspect an amphibious DUKA duck stored in Crooksville Perry County. Copenhaver and Moscow civil defense director Shirley Swart will visit Crooksville to arrange transport to Moscow. The report notes a portable bed and hospital litter stored for ill workers, and Betavia names Donald Hill civil defense director with Saturday hours 8 to 10 p.m.

PUB Water Poll Results Reported by Upper Clough Club

Clough Heights officials co chair Irene Hasse Brock and Al Fangman released results of a village water poll. Among 2664 respondents favor a two dollar monthly rate cut, 35 support keeping current rates, 31 undecided. The poll covered about 4700 users with 2000 unreachable.

Clermont County Democratic Chair resigns after 1960 tenure

William Henderson of Williamsville resigns as chairman of the Clermont County Democratic Executive and Central Committees. He has moved to Hamilton County, registered to vote there, and filed petitions for nomination as a party committeeman. Henderson cited time demands of the role. He led the party since 1960.

Party Resigns Clermont County Elections Leader

Eden Myers of Williamsburg serves as temporary chairman of the Clermont County party board of elections until the May 11 organizational meeting. Myers, a farmer and former party vice chairman, faces a draft movement to appoint Edward B. Osborne of Goshen as party chairman. Osborne, an attorney with offices in Batavia, is being considered.

Bus Driver Pay Plan Under Study in West Clermont

West Clermont board of education tabled a decision on hourly pay for bus drivers in favor of further study including a time and cost survey. A plan to fix the Glen Este high school sewage plant was authorized, with health authorities ordering corrections. Officials also planned a workshop for school bus mechanics and coordinated lake runoff concerns.
