Coach Bob Coulson’s undefeated Batavia Bulldogs win CCL basketball title for the second straight year. They conclude with Mt. Crab in a latest game and return to Batavia about 10:45 p.m. Saturday Feb 13. A public reception will honor the squad and refreshments served.
Eight teams compete in the Clermont County Junior High basketball tournament starting Saturday February 13 at Amelia and Northeastern high schools. Tournament manager Robert Hines and assistant manager Charles Long are coordinating with Nick Visnic of the county office. Semifinals occur February 19 at Northeastern with finals later. admission is 75 cents for adults and 50 cents for students.
Clermont County League of Women Voters holds a Feb 18 meeting at 1 p.m. in Batavia First Presbyterian Church to discuss equal opportunity in education and employment. chaired by C. M. Palmer with Jack Fuller and James Brown. The board meets at 10 a.m. the same day.
Locust Corner Pierce Township Democrats will meet at the new firehouse on Locust Corner Road Monday February 15 at 8 p.m. Harlan Washburn president invites new members refreshments will be served.
Clermont County teachers federation credit union lists 1965 officers including Lester Mohrfield president Margaret Rice vice president Ruby Hummer secretary Morley Figgins treasurer J W Alley Hugh Dunn Robert Mason Amelia districts names include Batavia Williamsburg Brantner Amelia Bethel. Auditing committee members are Mike Delfine Joan Melvin and Sydney Davidson. Loan committee members include Marshall Colwell Warren Anders and Roy Gaddis.
Ohio Governor James A. Rhodes vowed township government will stay as long as he is governor at the state convention in Columbus. Clermont County sent eleven trustees clerks with officers Harold Bissantz Batavia Township Harley Clark Pierce Township and Minton Christman Miami Township. Rhodes urged township trustees to push government from townships to Washington and support airport development to attract industry. Congressman Robert Secrest warned that if metropolitan government is adopted townships would lose the best government.
The Glen Este Athletic Boosters Club hosts a charity basketball game featuring the WSAI Freakish Five against the Booster Basketball Bouncers at Glen Este High School gym. Four Booster squads rotate play with Capt. Andrew Coutts and teammates leading the first group. The event showcases local talent in a community sports night.
Clermont County Planning Commission schedules a public hearing in Batavia at 8 p.m. on March 17 to discuss amendments to subdivision rules. Buckley notes changes aim to end barracks style layouts and allow staggered setbacks and use of terrain and trees. The revised rules remove 15 pages of pre construction specs, replacing them with new standards.
The 1965 feed grain program signup is under way in Batavia with Carey as chair. The voluntary program covers corn grain sorghum and barley, offering diverted acreage payments and price-support loans. Diversion rates allow 20 to 50 percent of base or up to 25 acres, with higher rates applying if base and diversion meet thresholds. Applications are accepted at the ASCS County Office in Batavia Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Amelia Ohio West Clermont board votes to place a 5.5 mill operating levy on the March 2 ballot. The levy costs 5.50 per $1000 of property value and lasts five years. It aims to raise teacher pay after a prior 2.5 mill levy failed in November and December. Bus service was curtailed January 18 to fund a raise, with eight drivers receiving half pay for extra layover time.
Mrs Frances Gallagher is named deputy registrar in Batavia with offices on West Main Street for drivers licenses and license plates. Peak sale period runs March 1 to April 10 hours 9 to 1 and 2 to 4 30 Monday to Friday and 9 to noon Saturdays. License plates go on sale March 1 with Batavia letters GB GH GC. At 7 30 p m Mt Carmel All Stars vs Summerside Elementary game with half time entertainment and refreshments to fund a Glen Este High football stadium.
The Batavia PTA will meet February 11 at 8 p.m. in the school cafeteria with Mrs. William Lahmann presiding. Cub Pack 127 will present the flag and leaders will be recognized as the Health Chairman announces Dr. Martin Saidleman as guest speaker on child health from infancy to adolescence.
AMELIA The next regular meeting of the Council on Educational Development COED will be held Monday evening Feb 15 at Amelia high school Maurice Lenz executive head of the West Clermont Local School District will be the guest speaker He will outline the functions of the executive head and discuss problems facing the district A question answer period directed to Lenz will follow his talk Attendees are urged to participate and submit questions for later answer via COED
Leo W. Carlier, formerly of Stonelick near Batavia and now at Route 2 Winchester, retires from CG&E after starting with the company on Oct 9 1936 and serving through 1920.
Clermont County board of education in cooperation with West Clermont schools and the Ohio Dept of Education hosts a tax workshop February 18 at the Cincinnati Gas and Electric Building auditorium Batavia from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Registration starts at 7. Robert K. Slade and William W. Storch CPAs chair the program providing materials for filing 1964 federal returns. A $1 registration fee will be charged.
Milford banker joins a credit school program aimed at educating bank employees on the technical aspects of installment lending and financing practices. The effort seeks to improve understanding of installment products, regulations, and risk management.
Joseph Clasgens descendant of Clasgens Woolen Mills founder will speak Friday Feb 12 at 8 pm in the Cincinnati Gas and Electric building Batavia Fourth and Spring Streets. Mrs Julia Erhart is program chairman Rev Glenn Beck will give the invocation. Mayor R C Jamieson will welcome and introduce the speaker with a short business meeting and refreshments to follow.
Clermont County Commissioners opened bids Monday to correct drainage in Dublin Acres Subdivision Miami Township. Engineer Carl H. Rush estimated the cost at 12 112. Darrell Harper Construction Co Cincinnati submitted the apparent low bid at 11 630. Other bidders included William Light Construction Goshen Clemons Excavating and Trucking Goshen and Aven Cincinnati. Bids referred to Rush for review.
The Ridge Club Inc will hold its annual meeting on Sunday February 21 at 2 p.m. in the Batavia School cafeteria. Two trustees will be nominated and elected at this gathering.
The Clermont County Republican Club begins a new program series tonight February 1 at 8 p.m. in the C. G. E. Auditorium Batavia with the theme The Spirit of 661 Tonight’s program titled Goodbye 64 dello 651 is hosted by Batavia residents. Mrs Paul Edlund leads the organizing committee. January meeting was in Milford at First Milford Savings. Committees announced include Bill Knepp chairman program May Holmes greeting Grace Spaeth membership Harold Danner public ity Arnold Stumpf budget with Danner on community development committee joined by Kahle Bissantz Tilbury all 1964 county office candidates. A student essay contest will award prizes at the May 13 meeting with Ronni Bennett chairing the committee.
