Fireman’s Death Forces Batavia School to Close

Battavia schools shut for a day after janitor James Whitney, a licensed fireman, died suddenly leaving no one to operate the heating. Robert Jones left to attend his sister’s death in Cleveland. Schools resumed Tuesday with hand-stoked furnace. a new fireman to be hired soon.

Re appraisal plan approved by farm groups

James Whitney Dies Suddenly at 52 in Batavia

James Whitney, a licensed fireman at Batavia school, died suddenly Sunday night at his sister Mrs. Howard Henderson’s home in Batavia. He was 52 and also survived by another sister Mrs. George Perry of Greenberry. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 PM from Moore Funeral Home.
