Judge O P Griffith authorized probation officer Mrs Spencer to collect and study 19 pension applications. She will assess each applicant’s finances and support, then report to the probate court which will empanel a three member unpaid commission. Maximum one child grant is 15 dollars with funds set by total applications and distribution.
The Clermont county soldiers relief commission met the last Wednesday in January and approved relief applications from the soldiers relief fund, with payment made February 1. First payment since last spring. Widows with pensions and no property receive $8 per month. Mrs Minnie Cast of Edenton visited Batavia friends Saturday and discussed Wayne township schools and centralisation.

H J Runyan, one of Southern Ohio’s oldest Masons, died at his Milford home February 2 after a lingering illness aged 82. He led a high regard in secret orders and is survived by eight children and nine grandchildren. His remains were buried in the Green Lawn cemetery.
The annual bean bake held by the W W Liggett Post in Ripley drew hundreds and surpassed previous years in liveliness and fun. Sixteen fiddlers performed old time airs such as Arkansas Traveler Coon Dog Turkey in the Straw and The Girl I Left Behind Me, delighting attendees from miles around.

Last week in Adams County a deed was left for record bearing a $50 government stamp indicating a transfer value of $50,000 for real estate while the cash consideration was $1. The unusual stamp indicates a nominal payment for the property.
A. V. Carroll president and business manager of the Carroll Jamieson Machine Tool Co. departed for New York to meet London buyers negotiating for a large order of engine lathes. He will be absent about two weeks.
The Owensville Protective Association met last Saturday at Favrer's Hall in Owensville and elected officers led by Captain Ine Shriner secretary J L Marek treasurer Jno B Rapp and lieutenants Frank Groves J K E Christy Geesner Milton Mill W Angeets and W A Johnson. The group is noted for the good work accomplished in the past year.
John W. Groves aged 79 a township pioneer died at his home Tuesday night after a morning operation to remove an intestinal obstruction He leaves a widow and several children funeral planned for Thursday at 2 p m from the home Clinton County National Bank announces plans to erect a new bank home in southern Ohio describing it as a fine modern structure work to start when weather allows
