Man Faces Charges in Robbery Attempt

Charles M. Oyenik 29 of Thorpe West Virginia turned himself in at the Clermont County Sheriff’s office and faces two charges of shooting with intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon after an attempted robbery of Summer'side Market March 17. Clerk Frank Quesenberry was wounded in the shoulder when a man entered the store at 10 45 p m, bought gum, drew a gun, and demanded money.

Heart Disease Mortality High in Clermont County

Clermont County reports 310 heart disease deaths among 622 total in last year, 53 percent of all deaths, with national rate at 54 percent. Heart Branch urges support for Heart Association and cites 1950 onward cardiovascular mortality decline and lifesaving research. Public hearings set at Union Township Hall February 28. Volunteers nationwide to distribute heart health literature.

Mosler Lock Co Employees Strike Sparks Milford Walkout

About 25 of 116 workers at the Mosler Lock Co plant in Milford joined a strike at 6 a.m. Tuesday after their contract expired at midnight Sunday. The workers are members of Shopmen Local 689, International Association of Bridge Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers AFL CIO, and produced safety deposit box locks time locks and vault door combinations.

Heart Association Seminar For Life Squads Sponsored

Heart Branch sponsors a continuing education class for life squads. The program runs during February in Clermont County and is financed through the Heart Fund. Navy personnel from 1959 to 1965 served at U S Naval Hospital St Albans and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.

Pierce Township residents and Fire Department volunteers pursue door to door contributions to pay for legal counsel in the Beckford plant dispute with CG and E. Robert Hinds of Paxton and Seasongood represents the township as it fights incorporation or annexation. Federal aid under Public Law 874 was announced with $3748 certified for immediate payment.

Batavia Chapter of AFS to Meet

The Batavia Chapter of the American Field Service will meet Sunday February 12 at 2 p.m. at Batavia High School. John Bucher chairman discusses plans for raising the participating fee to bring a foreign student to Batavia High School for the 1967 school year. The meeting is open to all community members for information and suggestions.

Judge Orville W. Halbisch retires after a long judicial tenure and passes the oath to his successor Judge Charles W. Jackson. Appointed Nov 12 1935 by Governor Martin Davey, Halbisch served six full terms plus part of Woodmansee’s term, as Jackson accepts the office amid a crowd of friends and well wishers.

Gardeners Get Jail Sentences

Police say trouble with the Gardener brothers and their father at 189 Forest Avenue Batavia led to arrests by deputies. They allegedly carried hunting knives and a knife was displayed during a confrontation.
