Clermont Northeastern bus drivers completed 15 hours of instruction at the State Department of Education ongoing cooperation with the district. The class received certificates on January 23 for efforts to improve safety and efficiency in local school transportation. Walker praised enrollees for their training interest and statewide demand for this service.

Ex-Judge Nellie Mattox dies. Clermont official and reformer

Services for Nellie E. Mattox 84 of 3 E Main St widow of Arthur B Mattox former Amelia mayor were held at 2 p m Monday at T P White Sons Funeral Home Mt Washington. Interment in Monroe Cemetery Nicholsville. She died Thursday at Christ Hospital. She was a former justice of peace county court judge and the only woman to serve in that role in Clermont County. She leaves a daughter two sons three sisters a brother eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Active in the Republican Party and civic affairs she promoted the life squad and served as secretary of BMOP Fire Department for many years.

Batavia Plans Water System Upgrade and Rate Increase

Batavia will issue revenue bonds totaling 300000 to fund a 558185 water treatment plant and distribution system as rates rise by about 50 percent. The average user faces roughly a 1.50 monthly increase with a 40 year bond plan approved after bidding from Glen Rhoades Construction Co. and others.

Peter J. Cotter, 23, of Columbus, was fined 50 plus costs on three counts of disorderly conduct after he allegedly spit on news photographers C Gordon Baer Louis Springmeier and Gerry Walter in Batavia. Judge Rosenhoffer ruled the fines maxed under the law and warned of further action for any repetition.

Zoning Change Lets OMNI Develop Eight Acres at Mt Carmel

The Union Township Zoning Commission approved a zoning change for OMNI Development Co. to permit construction of 114 apartment units on eight acres at Mt. Carmel on Rt. 32 Bell's Lane. Trustees will hold a public hearing after a prior rejection due to incomplete overall tract plans. The developers propose dedicating land to widen Bell's Lane to handle increased traffic.

Train Hits Car In Afton. Driver Escapes

Earl Weisflock fifty two of 2906 Batavia Williamsburg Pike escaped injury when his car was demolished after a westbound Norfolk and Western train struck it on Half Acre Road at 4 50 p m January 24. He told Patrolman H R Christian a car forced him off the road and he could not clear the tracks. The report also notes a zoning board consideration for eight acres on Glen Este Williamsville Road and Old Rt 32, with Charles McGuire seeking a business site for his auto parts business if a clearer plan is submitted.

EDA Rejects Amelia's Grant Bid for Sewer Project

The village failed to secure an EDA grant for a sewer system citing Vietnam era strains and federal judgment that the project is too small to create substantial jobs. Mayor Pommert lauded Rep. Harsha for support while noting cost remains prohibitive without outside aid. The campaign began six years ago.
