County approves 1.53 million for 1956 operations

Clermont commissioners earmark 1,530,000 for all county departments in 1956. Auditor Earle B. Kincaid notes the appropriation exceeds 1955 by about 25,000. The budget funds a 10 per month raise for county workers and includes money for child welfare and justices of the peace. Also set aside for crippled children and for new county offices. New Richmond receives 5,000 for radio station use 1955 56. Canter to aid farmers filing property taxes with Farm Bureau meetings and hours.

Arrest of William Genter In Federal Mail Fraud Case

William A. Genter 33 of Amelia was arraigned on a charge of using the mails to defraud. The former Batavia township official tore up a traffic ticket in the mayor’s presence, later sending a business reply card from Stanford Wood Products Co. with the mayor’s return address. He was released on a $500 bond and a February 17 hearing was set.

Commission Sets JP Salary Schedule in Clermont County

The Clermont County Commission established a monthly salary schedule for justices of the peace after state law barred fee collection. Townships assign JP pay ranging from 50 to 100 dollars monthly, with Jackson Tate and Washington townships granted 50 dollars yearly for future officers.

Banks Foot Tax Bills For Patrons

Ohio banks pay taxes owed by customers and shareholders rather than themselves the Ohio Bankers Association states. In Clermont County last year deposits taxed 49812 and shareholders 6523 with intangible tax on deposits and capital stock. banks absorb these taxes. The Ohio Department of Taxation notes about 630 banks vs four million depositors and stockholders, while Hannah Hardware Company attended the Cleveland hardware convention with Bob Hannah, Dick Hannah, Elton Kennedy and Jim Williams.

The Salvation Army annual finance appeal is planned countywide February 12 to 18 with a goal of 4600. Men Switch Labor Sentences To County Home

David Hofer and Raymond Newell pleaded guilty to contributing to juvenile delinquency and asked to serve sentences at the County Home instead of the Cincinnati workhouse. Judge Halbisch referred the request to Sheriff Dericks and Prosecutor Bradford. county commissioners unanimously granted the request. Eads family in Goshen injured in car crash after icy Route 28 slide. they were taken to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. A second car skidded at the same spot but its occupants were uninjured.

Clermont County Grade Tourney Semis Set At Amelia

Clermont County seventh and eighth grade basketball tournament semifinals are scheduled for Amelia with Bethel versus Owensville and Mt. Carmel against Moscow. The finals are set for Saturday night. First round scores include Mulberry 46 Batavia 24 and Moscow 37 Monroe 24. Semifinals begin at 7:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. with the finals on the same schedule.

Plumbers Deny Monopoly Charge Urge Cooperation With Builders

James G. Polk announced that the House Agriculture subcommittee favorably reported a resolution restoring the 15 percent burley tobacco allotment to Clermont County growers. Matt Storch of the Clermont County Plumbers Association rejected claims of a monopoly and urged cooperation between plumbers and builders while defending licensing to ensure qualified workers.

Muggers Sought By County Police Identity Known

Herbert Embry, 34, of Periitown was treated at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital for facial injuries after being robbed and beaten by two men in a Tower Hill cafe parking lot. Embry says he was talking to them when attacked and money stolen. suspects fled in cars and police say their identities are known.
