Williamsburg Veteran Receives Netherlands Medal for World War II Heroism

John Black of Second Street Williamsburg is photographed with a Medal of Order of Orange Nassau with Swords awarded by the Netherlands for heroism during Allied landings on Tarakan and Balikpapan. The honor joins his U S Navy Silver Star and Purple Heart from battles in the Pacific. The award was announced by Netherlands Consul General in Chicago and the ambassador in Washington.

Milford Couple Celebrates 60th Anniversary at Open House

Milford residents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Bosch marked their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house at 548 Main Street. Married February 4, 1890 in Bridgetown, Ohio they raised 12 children and now enjoy 25 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

New Post Office for Loveland Approved

James G. Polk Highland congressman announced the $200000 Loveland post office project is approved. The GSA confirmed the project in Washington and authorized site selection and plans in a formal local area notice. The Loveland project was included in 149 listed by the GSA as approved.

Special Services Planned at Bantam Christian Church

Special services will be held at the Bantam Christian Church February 12 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Murl Vaught of Asbury Tabernacle will preach the sermon according to Bethel Dalton, the church pastor.

Judge's Decision Confirmed by Higher Court

The First District Court of Appeals affirmed a Common Pleas ruling by Judge Harry Britton that suits by Mrs. Idonah Slade of Norwalk Connecticut against Benguet Consolidated Mining Co of the Philippines and John W Haussermann of New Richmond could not be prosecuted in Ohio. Slade seeks about 2.56 million dollars for stock and dividends and filed her petition in Clermont County early in 1948. Local lawyers Ely White & Davidson and Nichols Speidel & Nichols assisted.

Rumpke Fined $30 For Speeding In Clermont County

Herbert A. Rumpke, 22, of Batavia, was fined $30 and costs by Justice William Holtke after a speeding charge on State Route 74 east of Newtown. Ten dollars of the fine were suspended. State Patrolman Mark S. Trees made the arrest. Trees was previously cleared in a separate suit with Rumpke.

Water Line Extension Protested By Petition

A petition against a proposed water main extension along State Route 28 was filed with Clermont County Commissioners by 22 property owners representing 5,969 feet. They objected to additional tax assessments and questioned the project’s benefits and scope while a dairy barn fire near Newtonsville caused $15,000 in losses.

Death of Youth Brings Second Fatality in Bethel Crash

Charles Carnes 22 of Bethel died at Christ Hospital Cincinnati after a January 20 two car collision near Bethel. He had earlier been treated for multiple fractures. Surviving him are his widow, three children, one sister, and his parents Edwin and Mrs Carnes of New Richmond. Edward E Bowen, Carnes’ auto passenger, also died from injuries. two other passengers were hurt. Budd McKinney driver and Dan Gordon Carter were critically injured. Carter poor, McKinney fair. Both remain at Christ Hospital.

Goshen Star Circle Plans 2023 Dance Dates

The Goshen Star Circle resumes its dance series on February 25 with additional events on March 11 April 22 and May 6. Brock's Orchestra of Wilmington Ohio will provide music as last summer. A card party is scheduled for February 18 at the Goshen school auditorium.

Baseball clinic draws regional managers in Cincinnati

Two county men attend the clinic at Ho tel Linton in Cincinnati as part of a gathering of managers and coaches from southwestern Ohio northern Kentucky and Indiana. Chris Bryant of Williamsburg and Stanley Anstaett of Amelian are listed among attendees. Sponsors include the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues and several national sport bodies. Baby Girl Dies At Relative's Home In Lawshe Ohio

A 14 month old girl, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Sheeley of New Richmond, died late Monday at her grandparents home in Lawshe Ohio where she was living as a flood refugee. She grew ill Sunday.
