Amelia Laub to be guest organist at Woodsfield church

Amelia Laub will guest organist at Rev. B. S. Woodruff’s installation at the Presbyterian church in Woodsfield Ohio on Sunday evening February 5. She will play a quarter hour of religious music before the service and is noted as a harp soloist and organist with national recognition. The public is invited. Also noted are local business owner updates and Rev. Budd’s return to Clermont County with charges in Locust Corner Olive Branch and Summerside.

Williamsburg Fire Causes $500 in Damages at Main and Fifth

A fire blamed on a defective electric light cord damaged a bedroom in a two apartment dwelling at Main and Fifth Streets Williamsburg Tuesday. The loss, totaling about $500, affected one room plus bedding clothing and linens in storage. The two story ten room house was occupied by Mrs. Ella Lond and the Edward Demoss family and owned by A C Jordan. The Williamsburg Fire Department led by Chief Ernest Weak extinguished the blaze.

Batavia 4-H Elects New Officers At January Meeting

Batavia Needle Points 4-H Club met January 27 and split into two groups to begin a winter cooking project. New officers chosen include Betty Halbisch as president Joyce Genet as vice president Betty Ross as secretary treasurer Nancy Miller as recreation leader and Edith Halbisch as news reporter. Betty Ross spoke on health and safety. Nancy Miller led recreation. Next meeting set for February 24 at 4 p.m. at Mrs. Fette’s home.

League Tournament to Begin at Georgetown

Clermont County Independent Basketball League features 11 teams from Clermont Brown and Highland Counties meeting Feb 4 through Feb 12 in Georgetown high school gym. Double elimination competition awards a trophy and roughly 100 dollars to the winner and 50 to the consolation winner.

Last Round Tonight in Clermont County Independent League

The Clermont County Independent Basketball League plays its final round Thursday February 2. Milford Georgetown and Amelia lead tied for first. The Am elia night game decides at least a co champion for the season. Other games include Moscow at Georgetown Bethel at Batavia Owensville at New Richmond and Hillsboro at Miami Gas Milford. Tournament begins February 4 at Georgetown.

Requiem for Alma C. Sorg Held in Milford

A high mass for Miss Alma C. Sorg 63 of Newtonsville was sung at St. Andrew Church Milford. She died Thursday at her Newtonsville home after five years in the town. She had been a bookkeeper for her nephew Joseph Menke. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery St Bernard. Surviving are her mother Mrs Anna Sorg a sister Mrs Laura Newtonsville and a brother Frank J. Sorg Norwood.

Final Rites Held For Former Clermont Courier Employee

Funeral services for Otis White longtime Clermont County country newspaperman and former Clermont Publishing Company employee were held Monday at the William Stirling Moore funeral home in Batavia. He died January 27 at his home on the Williamsburg Batavia Pike and is survived by five children and twelve grandchildren. Burial was at Aberdeen Ohio.

Safe looted at Felicity Farm Bureau branch

About $1,400 in cash and checks were stolen from a safe at the Felicity branch of the Clermont County Farm Bureau Co operative Association. The break occurred Saturday night January 28 and was discovered at 10:30 a.m. Sunday by Eddie Lanham. Deputies said intruders forced a rear door to enter an unguarded building, with three similar robberies in Clermont County in the past five weeks.
