Gray Ladies health plan begins in Clermont schools

A pilot Gray Ladies volunteer program in Clermont County schools moves toward reality after a Wednesday meeting of Red Cross representatives, health officials, and educators. The plan trains volunteers to assist nurses, weigh and test students, help with meals, and maintain health records at Amelia Elementary and Felicity district schools with expansion planned next fall.

Proposed JFK Budget Burden in Clermont County $314.61

The Kennedy budget for fiscal year 1963 64 would cost Clermont County residents about 2533558 dollars, about 314 61 per person and 1258 44 for a four person family. County allocations derive one third from population and two thirds from personal income. The Clermont burden equals roughly 4 9 times the county's total local taxes in 1961.

Two Clermont residents honored by Army suggestion program

Mrs. Fredelic Kirk of Appleblossom Lane and Robert L. Powell of Berry Road received recognition from the Cincinnati Procurement District U.S. Army. Kirk earned two certificates and $310 for improvements in soldering color coding and space lug additions on cable assemblies. Powell earned a plaque for leading employee submissions during July to September 1962. Awards were presented by Col. Joseph E. McKinney at district headquarters in Cincinnati.

Appeal Filed to State Board Over Vaughn Ouster

Legal counsel for Alex Vaughn, ousted as State highway maintenance superintendent of Clermont County, appeals to the State Board of Personnel. Vaughn, a Democrat, was replaced January 21 by Republican Russell Simmons after Rhodes administration changes. The appeal alleges illegal ouster and improper transfer to Preble County at the same pay but in a different role.

County Personnel Attend District Meet at Lebanon

State Department of Education sponsored a one day conference on special education at Lebanon public schools. Ray mond Horn directed the program with over 300 teachers administrators and supervisors from Ohio schools in attendance. County personnel included Harry R Moore Clermont County superintendent Robert Slade director of pupil personnel Dr John F Winkle director of curriculum and several county teachers and administrators such as Maurice Lentz Kathryn Marr Mabel Wilson Doris Wellman Pearl Jackson Phyllis Campbell Zora Watson Wesley Jones and Herschel West among others.

Wayne Oney county welfare director reports 2798 residents received commodities in January at the distribution center. Milk 4648 pounds, rice 672 pounds, flour 9670 pounds, shortening 2334 pounds, butter 2646 pounds, dried beans 4844 pounds, canned meat 2712 cans, cereal 2769 pounds, peanut butter 1288 pounds, cheese 3120 pounds.

CG&E to Build New Batavia HQ with Auditorium and Drive‑In Window

Cincinnati Gas and Electric plans a 350000 dollar Batavia building at Fourth and Spring on a 185 by 198 foot lot. The facility will house CG&E's Eastern District HQ with a 50-car parking lot a drive‑in pay window and space for cooking and lighting demonstrations. Construction starts June 1963 with completion early 1964. William H. Zimmer leads CG&E. architects are Cellarius and Hilmer of Cincinnati.

Grant Writings To Be Published By OSU Press

The U S Grant Association will publish collected writings of Ulysses S Grant through Ohio State University Press and The Ohio Historical Society. Board members at a Columbus meeting include Ralph Newman and Allan Nevins. Materials from Orme W Phelps have been acquired, with four release segments: Pre Civil War Civil War and Reconstruction Presidential Period and Post Presidency. The annual meeting is set for April 27, Grant’s anniversary.

Countian Named Manager of New Vulcan Corp Plant

Countian Thomas H. Stamm Jr. was named manager of Vulcan Corporation’s new Blanchester shoe last plant after a 25 year career in shoe last manufacturing. He previously worked with Morton Last Company and gained mold making experience at Vulcan’s Walnut Ridge plant. Stamm and his wife live near Mt. Carmel and have a daughter Anna. Stamm Sr. recently marked 60 years in the business.
