Police Chief Threatened With Court Injunction Over Coupon Book Scam

Police chief Ed Colonel reports Walter Raschick owner of Queen Bee Advertising threatens a court injunction to stop police interference with his coupon book sales. For two weeks officers warned residents against solicitors selling books claiming $45 value for $4.95. A Batavia salesman was stopped and released after stating intent to quit. Colonel warns arrests for solicitors in Batavia or Batavia township and says the Cincinnati Better Business Bureau records numerous complaints.

The Clermont County Basketball League features Amelia at Northeastern Batavia at Williamsburg and Bethel at Felicity Friday. Goshen hosts Georgetown. Real Estate Tax Bills To Be Mailed About March 1

Byron Ross county treasurer announced the first half 1959 real estate tax statements will be mailed about March 1. Half the statements are prepared and the other half is being printed. After printing, special taxes and delinquencies are added before mailing. Ross thanked taxpayers for their patience and invited questions at the treasurer’s office.

Looting Suspected at McAlpin's Cherry Grove Store

A well organized gang is suspected in stealing 800 dollars from McAlpin's Cherry Grove Plaza Saturday night. No fingerprints found on registers. glass panel entry and damaged cash registers noted. Sunoco station in the center also broken into but nothing missing. Airman Charles R. Brath of Batavia has completed basic training at Lackland AFB and to attend radio radar maintenance training at Keesler.

County To Maintain Roads In Township Work Authorized

At the request of Wayne township trustees, county commissioners authorized County Engineer Carl H. Rush to maintain roads in the township. Trustees may use available equipment for four days or longer if needed until work is finished.

Horse Thief Unit to Mark 68th Birthday Anniversary

The Clermont County Rangers Mulberry Unit will celebrate its 68th anniversary on February 13 with a ham and covered dish dinner for members and families. Walter Raidt invites former members and their families to attend as special guests and provides contact numbers for information. The group began as Mt. Repose Horse Thief Protective Association in 1892 with Mark A. Norris as agent and later became Clermont Rangers Mulberry Unit. The organization recently filed a continued existence statement naming Raidt as agent, with Ted Brown noting the corporation remains in good standing.

Two County Girls To Be Honored At Western College

Miss Susan Elliott and Mrs Constantin Ettlngher will join fellow seniors at Western College for Women Oxford for Senior Day on Saturday February 13. Activities include a breakfast by the alumni association a convocation featuring Senator Margaret Chase Smith and a noon Senior banquet. Permits Issued In January For 30 One-Family Homes

Clermont County building inspector O. O. Mattox reports 30 permits issued in January for one family houses with an estimated construction cost of 351000. For January 1959 there were 25 permits for single unit residences at 299300. Areas for which the permits were issued are:

Traffic Lights Planned for Western County Areas

Traffic engineer Robert C. Hanselman announced four signals and studies for two more in the western county. Proposed sites include Amelia and St Thomas More schools, Nine Mile Tabasco Rd with Rt 125, and Rt 74 with Tobasco Rd near Mt Carmel school. Completion of Williamsville Tobasco and Cherry Grove Shopping Center studies is about two weeks. May include attendees from Rep. Charles Jackson to local civic groups.

Youths Fined After Crashing Teenage Dance at Armory

Mayor R C Jamieson of Batavia ordered fines for six Cincinnati youths arrested Saturday night after crashing a teenage dance at the National Guard Armory. The seventh offender was to appear in juvenile court on intoxication charges. Walter Kidd 19 and James Kidd 19 were fined 40 dollars and costs for drunk and disorderly conduct with an additional 50 dollars for resisting arrest. Morris Keaton 18 Danny Hamack 18 Robert Huesman 21 and Donald Caldwell 24 each faced 20 dollars and costs for disorderly conduct.

Prominent County Farmer Dies in Clermont County

Joseph D. Baumann 73 of Elklick, a noted Clermont County farmer and Grange member, died Monday night. Services Friday at 1 30 p.m. at Batavia Evangelical United Brethren Church with Greenlawn Cemetery Milford interment. Council Approves Sewer Resolution in Williamsburg

The Williamsburg council passed a resolution of necessity for a $550,000 sewer project after citizen requests. A parallel referendum petition ended in a 201 to 201 tie in a recent special election. Vice mayor Ralph D. Fuhr reported a local survey showing 90 percent of nonvoters favor the program.

Town Seeks Planning Unit Help in New Richmond

Suro executive director of Clermont County Planning Commission asked by council to aid in forming a planning and zoning commission for the village. Building inspections to be extended to the village, with an ordinance to authorize Clermont Building Inspection Department services. Council also plans to authorize life squad members as special police with radio facilities.

Patrolman Hired On Full Time Basis In Felicity

Herman E Howell a 24 year old patrolman in Manchester for two years has been hired by Felicity council as a full time policeman. He will start today under Police Chief Keith Gregory with salary paid from funds expected from parking meters. Council also plans to install 80 parking meters and has approved steps for annexing two acres to Felicity.
