Bids for Water System Building Still Exceed Estimate

County commissioners again face bids above the engineer's estimate for an administration building for the Miami Goshen Stonelick Water System. This is the third bid opening where offers surpassed projected costs prompting a planned conference with the engineer and project staff. The site is on Guinea Pike near Route 28.

Auditor Rhodes Praises Neville Mayor for Clean Records

State Auditor James A. Rhodes commended Mayor John Jarman of Neville for an efficient administration after reviewing the July 7, 1957 to April 15, 1959 examination. He praised Clerk Treasurer Emily C. Leslie and urged strict record-keeping to speed exams and save taxpayer money.

Board Releases WC School Funds

The Ohio Controlling Board released 1.98 million dollars for four West Clermont local school projects benefiting about 1,500 students. State aid totals 704,759 dollars from capital plan funds. overall state share is 857,194 dollars with 152,000 spent earlier on site work. The plan includes a 700-seat high school, a 420-pupil elementary, an addition for 480 students, and rehab of an older elementary.

March 4 Bid Deadline For County Building Bonds

Sealed proposals must be received by the county clerk by noon on March 4 for the purchase of $100,000 in county building addition bonds. Bonds, each $1000, carry four percent annual interest. Bids will be opened and awarded by the county commissioners on March 4 or within three days after.

John B. Jewett of Rt. 1 Moscow serving an Ohio Penitentiary sentence for intent to kill is sued in Common Pleas Court for 75000 by Lawrence Mulvaney of Amelia for injuries from a May shooting. Mulvaney seeks 50000 for injuries and 25000 more as damages.

County to Solve Drainage Problem in Rt 125 Area

County commissioners Zenas Anstaett and Con Ison reject state petition to drain 57 acre area at county expense. They order a new culvert and brush clearing to speed water flow, with no cost to property owners. The state would contribute only a small share for the two acres of right of way on Rt 125.

Registration Warning Ahead of May Primary

The Board of Elections cautions county residents to register if they wish to vote in the May 3 primary. This year all voters must be registered, even if not previously required. Those without a name in the precinct books can register at the Batavia Elections Office during weekday hours or Saturdays until noon.

Everett Lindsey to speak at Batavia joint club meeting

Everett Lindsey, Gulf Oil Corp. employee relations manager and humorist, will headline a Batavia Business Men's Association and Batavia Rotary Club joint meeting Monday night Feb 15. A 16 year old from Williamsburg, already jailed on petit larceny, confessed after police used a ruse to obtain his statement he opened three Batavia Post Office boxes and took checks. Checks were found at Elk's Cafe washroom. two addressed to Lewis Distributing Co. and Auxier Gas. Hearing not yet set.
