Residents urge county action to fix heavy-load damage on rural pikes and demand enforcement of road laws. They warn loads must be lighter or roads must settle or freeze before further passage, citing readiness to spend $600,000 on new pikes to protect existing infrastructure.
Goshen Township Farmers Institute will convene February 9 and 10 with a program featuring opening exercises, school children invocations, community singing, farmer education talks by Laird Munsinger and L. A. Breckler, Mrs. Lillian Orme, and addresses by Co. Agt. S. B. Stowe and H. C. Aultman. Evening programs include music and lectures on rural opportunities and a square deal for the farmer's wife.
Col. Thomas D. Fitch former Batavian died January 22 in Los Angeles at his eldest daughter’s home. He was 88 and buried Saturday at Forest Lawn Glendale. Fitch served as Division Quartermaster with captain and brevet colonel ranks in the Civil War. He and his second wife, who died last July, had three children with grandchildren and great grandchildren all in California. He once owned the Clermont Courier with no brothers. First wife Harriet Wayland was sister to Mrs. Anna Dimmitt of Batavia. He was long a resident of Batavia and his death saddens local friends.
A large attendance at Miami Grange No. 1886 in Milford heard County Agent 8 B Stowe discuss progress for Grange and community thirty years hence. A Lincoln Day program for the February 7 gathering features songs, Lincoln stories, and talks on farming and youth clubs.
The Gregg farm home at Neville owned by W. N. Bacon burned Sunday night. The new house was a standout on the Ohio riverfront and is listed among the area’s attractive properties.
Batavia is favored to land a large Rubber Corporation of South Bend Indiana after the Batavia Business Men's Club urged a new plant location. The firm would hire many workers and offer clean well paid jobs with current orders backing a second factory. The tobacco warehouse and local business growth bolster optimism. Edward Edwards of Milford escaped serious harm when a car chain broke on ice causing a skid but only the vehicle suffered damage.
Market in Clermont county opens strong with 67 000 pounds offered and average 28 40 per hundredweight. Leading grower averages listed include E Benning 52 51 John Johnston 50 08 John Moreland 45 51 and A Jackson 46 81. Also notes elections board met in Batavia to review five referendum petitions including women voting for presidential electors and suffrage with signatures totals. Court case on graduated auto tax law moves to Court of Appeals. new 1920 license fees outlined for vehicles trucks and motorcycles.

Ohio could gain funds if similar reforms to Kentucky are adopted after November elections. The article recalls Gov. Morrow’s Kentucky moves abolishing 87 offices since inauguration, saving the state about 232 thousand dollars annually and reducing salaries for many nonessential posts. It notes a Norwood Hillsboro railway sale and a church social at the M E church with talks on revival and community meals.
The Ohio Board of Administration telegrammed the War Department last Wednesday declining the Ancor site for a State Home for Feeble-Minded. An offer may be made later that could be accepted, and farmers deprived of land and money would welcome an early settlement.
A double funeral took place in Newtonville last Friday for James Cross and his sister Maggie, both prominent locals who died within hours of one another from Bright's disease after an extended illness.
Eight year old Elsworth, son of Court Dericks, was struck by a wagon while helping his father haul wood near their home in Miami township. He died Friday at Children's hospital in Mt. Aubara after being rushed there following the incident last week.
Mrs. W C Bishop hosts Batavia Woman's Club with program featuring American Women Responses Women Who are Doing Things Woman in the Spotlight Literary Women of Today and Woman's Suffrage pieces including Josiah Allen's Wife read by Mrs Gregg and Mrs Mounte.
The Clermont Farm Bureau supplies members with corn for spring use as feed becomes scarce and expensive. Five cars arrived last week and were unloaded. fourteen more have been ordered and will arrive soon. Members only until needs are met, then the public will be served. The tobacco license changes raise dealer and retailer duties, with wholesaler paying 150 dollars annually and retailer 50 dollars. tobacco used for manufacture remains costly and scarce.
The Republican Executive Committee of Adams County met Wednesday and unanimously endorsed Hon. Chas. C. Kearns for Congress in the Sixth District. His congressional record shows faithful service, Military Committee duties, and valued experience for the people.
Country Club No 50 held its first meeting of the year January 29 at Mrs Hol dens home with good attendance. New program books and songbooks pleased members while the group discussed improvements, music, annual officer reports, current events, and a Detroit trip account by Mrs John Foster. Next meeting set for February 26 at Mrs Kellums.
Mrs. Alice Black of Amelia died at home last Friday night after a lasting illness. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah. She was mother to Mrs. Chas Seyler and leaves several grown children and many friends in mourning.
Council met with President S L Larkin presiding in Mayor Ross absence. W B R Wilson appointed to fill Ralph Titus vacancy. E R C Bly named city solicitor and asked to buy law books. Hall lease for moving pictures to be handled by committee after ordinance and sealed bids. Marshal pay to be set at next meeting. Harry Cowdrey released under habeas corpus writ in murder case. State to appeal. Brown county origin noted.

Owensville Community Center held a January 29 meeting at the schoolhouse with a large crowd. The program featured singing and readings, followed by a speech by Chas G. White criticizing Bolshevik influence, praising the Union, and urging youth to obey laws and become law abiding citizens.
Clermont County farmers will see a February improvement program with meetings on fertilizer, limestone needs, tobacco and poultry practices. Dustman and Stover will attend six and eight sessions respectively, plus several organizational and farm bureau events in Washington, Jackson and Goshem townships. Members urged to join at ten dollars and support county farm bureau efforts for legislative and marketing gains.
