County Surveyor F H Galbreath ordered embargoes on all state pikes south of the Lincoln highway and on Clermont county pikes effective Monday. Maximum weight 71? tons, tire width may limit load. fines start at 25 dollars for first offense and 100 for second. Violators will be prosecuted. Public urged to cooperate to protect roads.
Our Evening Mail reports Batavia now receives evening mail via the C G P road, arriving at 5 24. Congressman Charles C Kearns confirms Washington support for a permanent route and notes desire to restore morning mail to Cincinnati.
The Daughters of Rebekah Ba tavia Palmetto lodge will host the subordinate lodge on Saturday night March 6. The ladies provide the supper and entertain. the men deliver the program. Both sides expect a good evening.
The ladies of the M. B. Guild held another fine dinner in the Sunday school room last Wednesday evening to a large crowd. It is noted that each dinner exceeds the previous one in quality and satisfaction.
With mild weather the tobacco crop shifts from barns to warehouses as growers report light weights but some good prices. A large portion will be ready for delivery once roads settle.

Naylor, elected in 1924 with a term ending in September, resigned to take effect February 21 and move to Florida with his wife and son. Deputy Bruce Bennett is recommended to succeed him, while O. Rice will assume the recorder elect role on the second Monday in September.

Former Batavian Mrs Serepta Anna Bryan Gomien died in Hanford California on January 16 at age 86. She was tied to the Bryan family once living in Batavia and was a relative of Frank Kain. The Bryan family left Batavia in 1880 and no representatives remain.
The Pure Food Show at Wiseman and Fosters Department Store attracted hundreds of visitors last Saturday. Demonstrations drew attention to attractive prizes and bargains that boosted local business and goodwill toward more such events in town.
Sheriff Fred Croswell Deputy Robert Roberts and a Columbus detective traced a fence linked to Branch Hill in Hamilton county. They confronted two men who barricaded a house and fled after a brief shootout. The sheriff recovered dry goods tires and apparel and brought 16 tires to Batavia for ID before referring the case to Hamilton authorities.
The & F. Progressive Farm Women’s Club opened its year with a January 21 gathering at Hattie Glaney’s home. Libations included a club song, readings, cornet and piano performances, installation of officers by Ruth Hutchinson, and a tribute to charter member Elizabeth Harlow with a flower vase. A luncheon of fruit salad, cake, juices, and bananas followed.

Owensville to Williamsburg pike is nearly impassable with deep ruts while macadam roads suffer under heavy use. Roads from Stonelick and hills like Duckwall and Davis show ongoing deterioration. The law allows load restrictions to protect soft roads. next summer activists push for better roads.
