The Clermont County Athletic Association met in Batavia to schedule boys and girls basketball tournaments. After eight months without a church home the U B church opened the basement of its new building for services. Attendance reached 177 despite bad roads. Mrs Semrau led Open the Gates of the Temple and Zion City of Our God was sung by the choir. Future services will remain in the basement with a C E B Society program next Sunday night.

88th Birthday for Civil War Veteran Joseph Platter
Joseph Platter, Civil War veteran and longtime gardener, quietly celebrated his 88th birthday last Saturday at his Wood Street home after arriving from Peebles where he ran a mercantile business and gardened. Mrs. Mary Richert of near Gernon died Friday morning at 67, leaving a devoted husband Aloyive Richert and three daughters and a son. funeral at St. Philomena Church, Stonelick, with burial at St. Bernard, Ohio.

Mt Carmel Pomona Grange Opens Year in Clermont County
The Clermont County Pomona Grange held its first meeting of the year at Mt. Carmel on Saturday January 29 with about 100 members from across the county. Fourteen Mt. Carmel members took the Pomona degree three from Bethel and two members were reinstated. A noon feast followed business and the lecturer program featured music a reading by Olive Huhn of Newtown a Mt. Carmel Grange play a contest by Sister Manley of Marathon Grange and a stunt by the Master and Lecturer. Deputy Homer Ashton of Williamsburg Grange urged Granges to cooperate for a successful year. The next meeting will be at Marathon on the last Saturday in April.

Receiver Named In Foreclosure Suit For O G P Railroad
Union Trust Company as trustee filed a foreclosure suit in Common Pleas Court to take over and operate the Cincinnati Georgetown and Portsmouth Railroad for bondholders.
