Marine Private Roger M. Lay, 19, son of the Rev and Mrs James E Lay of Milford Ohio, was killed January 18 during patrol in Thua Thien Vietnam. He joined the Marines in 1967 and served in Company C First Reconnaissance Battalion First Marine Division. He arrived in Vietnam December 2. Surviving are his parents two sisters and four brothers. Final services and burial planned in Jellico Tennessee after two days at Monroe-Cypher Funeral Home Milford.
Dan Stevens of Bethel and Lawrence Welk led a Cleveland gathering for the American Cancer Society’s 20th Annual National Volunteers Meeting for Education and Crusade. Local contingent headed to April Crusade during Cancer Control Month at the Sheraton-Cleveland Hotel.
The Clermont Extension Advisory Committee recommended two new Extension Agents for Clermont County subject to OSU Board approval. Robert L. Sutton was named County Extension Agent 4-H, starting Feb. 1, after a long local 4-H involvement and roles at the County Fair. Sutton earned an OSU animal science degree in 1965 and has worked as a herd man and in beef shows and fairs with national breed organizations.
Longtime county educator J A Ashton retires after a career spanning 38 years. He served as teacher principal farmer and school leader in Clermont and Williamsburg areas. He helped shape enrollment growth from 6310 in 1936 to over 25000 today and asked what changes the next 38 years will bring.
Williamsburg could gain a community two-doctor medical center after the Sears-Roebuck Foundation expressed support following a Rotary Club inquiry. A town meeting is set for Feb 15 at 8 PM to explain the program and answer questions, with hoped attendance of at least 500 residents.

Funeral services for A H Lewis 67 of 425 Wood Street Batavia were held Monday with burial in Bethel Tate Township Cemetery. He died last Friday at Woodside Manor after long illness. Born in Morehead Kentucky he lived in Clermont County over 50 years and ran Lewis Distribution Co with his sons Ralph F and Paul R. He previously ran a Ford agency with his late brother Thurman from 1929 to 1954. He was a charter Batavia Rotary member and active in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church Hyde Park as a Sunday school teacher elder and choir member. He leaves Edith Tampin Lewis widow two sons one daughter seven grandchildren three sisters and three brothers.
Locust Corner resident Fred H Lipps aged 83 died Monday night at Brown County Hospital. He lived 55 years at 3531 Merwin Ten Mile Rd and with Lulu Sigil Lipps celebrated 60 years of marriage. Funeral 2 pm Friday Powers Nurse Funeral Home Amelia officiated by Rev Dallas Eubanks. burial Mt Moriah Cemetery. He leaves daughters Marie Auxier and Helen Belle Van Matre and son Earl B Lipps.
