Batavia Police Chief Seeks Sheriff Post

Batavia Police Chief N. C. Ward 43 announced Tuesday he will seek the Republican nomination for Clermont County Sheriff at the May primary. Ward, a former Ohio State Highway Patrol member, vows a crackdown on drugs and plans to build a professional force, improve jail security, and create a county road patrol. He and two other Republicans, Richard Shanklin and incumbent Donald Watson, are in the race.

John W. Smith 82 of Williamsburg, former president of Clermont County Board of Health, dies at home. Funeral at Maham Funeral Home with Masonic rites. burial in Williamsburg Cemetery with military honors. Survived by wife Mabel, daughter Mary Madeline Jensen, son J. Kermit, and five grandchildren. he held multiple public, business, and educational roles. He served in WWI and WWII, founded J. W. Smith Lumber Co., and led local civic groups. He was related to George Washington and met Queen Elizabeth through a Washington descendant group.

Burglars Loot Nash Pharmacy In Batavia

Batavia police report a burglary at Nash Pharmacy between 7 p.m. Sunday and 6 30 a.m. Monday. Thieves pried the front door, fled via the rear, taking over 200 cartons of cigarettes along with watches electric shavers cameras radios and drugs with tools left at the scene. Louis Wolf the owner estimates the loss at 2000 dollars. Josh Kilgore the custodian found the break in and the case remains under investigation.

Citizens Seek Help Locating Green Pickup After Mt Carmel Hit Skip

State Patrol asks for public aid in finding a 1970 green pickup involved in a hit skip in Mt Carmel. Two girls, Cindy Hostender 16 and Tina Bayer 14, were injured as the truck with amber roof lights and white tool boxes struck them near Convenient Foods on Old SR 74 at 9 p.m. Cindy remained in critical at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. Tina was in good condition at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
