Postmaster Arthur E. Hill of Batavia reminds customers that new postage rates will take effect January 7 for all classes of mail except parcel post and international mail. He emphasizes the overall rate rise applies across most mail categories.
Postmaster Hill outlines new postage rates effective January 7 including six cents for first class letters up to 13 ounces and ten cents for air mail up to seven ounces. Card rates rise to five and eight cents respectively, with broader category changes for heavier mail and special handling reintroduced.
Two local service members die in Vietnam battles. Pvt Virgil L Hiter 19 of Goshen dies of combat wounds December 13, member of Company B 39th Infantry Ninth Division. Cpl Rodney L Huddlerson 22, Milford High School alum, killed December 19 on a reconnaissance mission after a helicopter ambush.
Clermont County Superintendent Russell Simmons announced signals will be installed in January or February at the SR 131 and Wolf Pen Pleasant Hill intersection in Day Heights due to overdue need, backed by traffic counts and Milford School bus routes. He also directed a study of congestion at Branch Hill Guinea Pike and SR 28 after numerous accidents.
The Olive Branch Methodist Church, led by Rev. Herbert H. Ricketts, invites members to the cornerstone laying Sunday for a 46 by 80 foot two story educational building. The project, valued at $65,000, will add six classrooms a chapel and social facilities and aims for completion by Easter in the church centennial year.
Mrs. Frank Goodnough of 6737 Oakland Rd. suffered a back injury and severe facial laceration in an auto accident Friday morning while en route to Drake Hospital in Hartwell. She is in satisfactory condition at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. A Clermont County nurse with Army service in World War I, she has worked at Children's Hospital and Christ Hospital and has served at Drake Hospital for 17 years.
The Clermont Courier and county merchants launch the 21st Stork Race offering gifts from Rosenzweig Department Store to The Courier readers. The first baby born in 1968 to Clermont County residents will receive a prize package including shoes, diapers, a baby gift kit, a new car ride home, savings accounts, portraits, and a memory book. Parents must report birth by noon Tuesday with attending physician noted. If no report, contest extends.
The Economic Development Administration assigns numbers to two Clermont County requests for federal funds for sanitary sewer systems. Manager Harlan Mace was notified that applications are under review for basic eligibility including engineering and feasibility. J. H. Clasgens Co seeks expansion in Felicity if sewers are provided. a larger grant targets the County Airport near Batavia with an industrial park in plans.
Donald Harold Worley son of Mr and Mrs Nolan Worley Rt 2 Goshen has joined the American Red Cross as an assistant field director in the Service at Military Installations program after four weeks of orientation at Ft. Meade Md he will begin his first assignment at Norfolk Va assisting the field director in counseling and related Red Cross services.
Col. Robert M. Chiaramonte of the Ohio State Highway Patrol warns motorists of changes in Ohio traffic laws. The omnibus highway safety bill this year enacted reforms including new procedures related to implied consent and alcohol testing for drivers suspected of drinking while driving.

Sheriff Donald Watson's office confirmed no serious holiday mishaps, while a random year start inspection program will require drivers to stop for vehicle checks upon patrol direction.
