The piece notes B. Rapp on Fourth Street with the home pictured on the extreme right. Judges were Mrs. Jerome Jackson, president of the Williamsburg Garden Club, and Mrs. Harry Britton. Judging occurred on Friday December 22, in the Williamsburg area.
The Courier outlines 1951 goals adding pages for county coverage and features. A regular sports section debuts on page 4 with Joe Moore and Tom Davis directing, while historical pieces by Harry Halbisch and Poet's Nook sketches return.
Batavia school children stage an operetta and a Santa Claus in Mother Goose Land program on Tuesday December 19. Seventh and eighth grade chorus members are named, along with participants from the second, third, and fourth grades in Mother Goose scenes. The opening chorus features multiple students including Joan Didday Ann Hale Katie Lansing Skipper Parrott and Larry Walker. The production was directed by teachers Lois Brion Ann Narrison Naomi Andress Annetta Summers Myrtle Wilson.
The historical sketch Clermont County An Anniversary Etching will be off the press next week with first copies sent by January 6. All paid subscribers of The Courier receive a copy at no charge, and others may call at the office after January 10. Extra copies will be sold and a copy with new subscriptions while supply lasts. Gift recipients were notified last week of delayed mailing and saw a color front page message from the sender.
Merchants and The Clermont Courier sponsor a First Baby of the Year contest with prizes from Mack's Furniture, Hartman's Pharmacy, Dorsey's Thrift E Market and others. Residents of Clermont County may enter by noon January 3, with eligibility extending to babies born outside the county if parents reside here for at least a month. The newspaper notes no liability if no birth is reported and lists the prize lineup and the Courier gift.
Clermont County commissioners consider equipping two sheriff cars and installing an office unit with two way radios. Police Chief Fred Hoh and John Fritz proposed using New Richmond station as base, costing $2,000 yearly for 24 hour operation.
Chief John Lauffler reports Batavia volunteer firemen received new hats and raincoats for twenty two members. Fire proof gloves are to arrive later. The cost was shared equally by the village and Batavia township trustees.
Emil Retzler of near Batavia faces drunken driving charges after a head on collision with Mrs. Mie Love of Elk Ridge Road on state Route 74 about three miles west of Batavia. Deputy Marvin Bissanta reported the accident and injury to a woman.
