The Batavia Community Christmas committee, spanning civic groups, works with merchants to gather food and toy baskets for about 40 families. Elder residents receive flowers and candy, a Town Hall Theatre show for children features Santa, and a courthouse corner tree with Main Street lights completes the festive program.

Simplicity Marks Christmas Services In Local Churches

Local churches plan simple Christmas programs led by ministers Fred Mark and Rev. Duckwall. Batavia Methodist Church hosts a Sunday School program Saturday evening and a 7 30 carol service. Holy Trinity offers carols and Masses on Christmas Eve and morning. Stonelick Saint Philomena also presents carols before Midnight Mass. Presbyterian and EUB congregations hold morning worship and children’s programs on Christmas Day.

Ruth Ungelheam of Batavia wins $5 for correctly identifying the Buckeye cabin shown in a drawing tied to the 1840 William Henry Harrison campaign. The cabin was built in Batavia for a large political rally. the sketch dates to 1888 by Rem Lane.

County Peace Officers Hold Annual Dinner at Perintown

The Clermont County Peace Officers Association held its annual turkey dinner on December 14 at the Wishing Well tavern in Perintown. J. H. Winness presided and introduced speakers Judge Harry Britton Judge Orville Halbish and Ray Bradford who urged increased support for law enforcement as Clermont County grows and duties rise.

Batavian Injured After Car Plunge Into Fence

David K. Smith of Batavia sustained deep throat lacerations after being hurled through a car windshield driven by Franklin Kennedy of Batavia. The crash occurred at the intersection of State Route 28 and US 50 over the weekend. Kennedy was cited for reckless driving.

Two Youths Held For Disturbance At New Richmond

Police Chief Pred Hoh arrested cousins William Snider and Donald Snider both of New Richmond after a street fight at Ferry Garden Cafe and a disturbance at Lee's Cafe. They face three charges including disorderly conduct resisting an officer and disturbing the peace and will have a mayor’s court hearing in New Richmond tonight.

MacKinney Loses Driving Rights as Fine Suspended

Judge Harry Britton in Common Pleas Court fined Merrill Bud MacKinney 500 dollars for manslaughter in the January 20 1950 death of Edward E Bowen. Six months in jail and a one year driving ban were imposed but the jail term and half the fine were suspended on good behavior. Driving license suspension remains in effect.

Williamsburg Hosts Clermont County School Masters Meeting

Teachers from Amelia Bethel Felicity Goshen Owensville Williamsburg Pierce Township and Williamsville attended the Clermont County School Masters Club monthly meeting in Williamsburg on December 14. The topic was Liability Insurance for Teachers. The Williamsburg High School Boys Ensemble performed and a dinner was served. The next gathering will be January 11, 1951 at Williamsville School.

Two Newtown men Wilbur Neeley and Frederick Hochstok were cut and bruised in a head-on collision on Wooster Pike. They were treated at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital for injuries.

Williamsburg cafe owner survives Route 74 crash

Eddie Cooper of Williamsburg escaped with minor injuries after losing control of his car on Route 74 two miles east of Batavia. His vehicle rolled onto its side in the center of the road.
