Bricker Inauguration Set for January Ninth in Columbus

John W. Bricker will be inducted as Ohio's fifty fourth governor at 2 pm January 9 at the capitol west entrance with Chief Justice Weygandt administering the oath. The ceremony will follow an inaugural program starting at 1 pm including induction of Thomas J. Herbert Don H. Ebright Earl Griffith and Paul M. Herbert.

Hunting Allowed On January 2 In Ohio

The Division of Conservation Council met in Columbus and decided to permit hunting on Monday January 2 in Ohio since January 1 falls on Sunday. New 1939 licenses and metal hunter tags are required and now on sale through township clerks including Batavia Township Clerk S Y Anstaett.

Mr and Mrs John Hahn of Batavia celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary Christmas Eve while wintering with their daughter in Stokesdale North Carolina. He is 81 and she will be 80 January 28. They have five children Emma Vaughn Stokesdale Joe Winemiller Stanley Huber Carl and Walter Hahn all of Batavia, 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

County Calendar Sets Yearly Meeting Dates

Clermont Pomona Grange sponsors a county calendar of events for the coming year to prevent conflicts. Cooperating groups include Farm Bureau Farmer's Union County Brotherhood Schools and the County P T A with the County Agent's office as a clearing house to eliminate duplicate dates and boost attendance.

Batavia Community Christmas a Record of Cooperation

The Community Committee bringing together Garden Club Woman's Club Rotary American Legion and others organized an unprecedented Christmas effort in Batavia. Main Street was decorated for the first time. prizes honored home and business decorations. 500 children attended an Armory party with bands and a magician. 72 baskets and toys for 300 children were distributed. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts contributed sets and dolls with Batavia High School Home Economics aiding toy prep.

Hamersville Man Suffers Fire Loss

A Tuesday evening fire at the O. J. Chatterton farm one mile west of Hamersville on No 125 destroyed two barns a chicken house livestock and feed. Loss estimated at 7000 with three horses nine cows fifteen hogs about one hundred chickens 2500 pounds tobacco hay corn and farm implements burned. no insurance reported. Chatterton suffered a heart attack but survived with severe shock.

C. W. Wallace Named New Ohio Registrar

C. W. Wallace of Toledo will become Ohio registrar of motor vehicles on January 9, announced by Governor-elect John W. Bracker. Wallace, a Nebraskan by birth, has long been with the Toledo Edison Company and led Lucas county Republican headquarters in the recent campaign. He is past Toledo Chamber of Commerce president and active with Rotary and Community Chest.

Clermont Grange Elects Officers for 1989

The Clermont Grange No 2377 elected officers for 1989 in a November 22 meeting. Newly chosen officers include Carl Ansteatt master and Faye Pringle secretary with a January installation planned. A December 27 Christmas program will be presented by the men.

Clermont County Claims Upheld by State Safety Division

November filings totaled 16 claims by Clermont county workers with the State Division of Safety and Hygiene per Supt. Thos. P. Kearns. Of these, three exceeded seven days, two were seven days or less, and six were medical cases only. The total loss to county workers reached 90 days.

Congressman James G. Polk announced candidates for two U S Naval Academy vacancies to be filled next year. Clermont County to receive state sales tax funds for debt relief

Clermont county will get about 5400 from 1939 sales tax receipts to reduce the county inmate care deficit and 6500 to be released. State bills for county wards have built up over 28 years totaling around 56000. The agreement runs eight years and four months with 1 percent monthly payments until fully paid.

Bonds Delivered Notes Sold for Clermont County Jail Funds

Clermont county bonds totaling 20000 dollars bearing 4 percent interest were mailed to Pohl and Co of Cincinnati after they were the low bidders with a 228 dollar premium. Additionally 18000 dollars in notes at 3 percent were delivered to The Peoples Bank Williamsburg to raise the county’s share of the 60000 dollar jail project. Bethel Mourns Loss Of Joe Barngrover A longtime janitor

Joe Barngrover 61 died Wednesday after pneumonia at Bethesda hospital. He served twelve years as janitor at the Bethel school plant and was highly regarded by faculty and students. He was a Baptist and a 32nd degree Mason. Survived by widow Natalie, adopted daughter Lavetta, and other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church. Masonic services occurred Friday at the residence. Interment followed in Bethel cemetery.

Hamersville Gets Big School Grant

Hamersville Board of Education announced a federal grant of 26000 for the district. The district had approved a 55000 improvement project earlier, but progress stalled due to election delays recounts bond sale issues and a hold on state approval. The board met Tuesday and authorized the improvement contract.
