A hold up at the A. and P. store in Loveland last Friday netted $29 from the cash register. The assailant entered at 5 40 PM announced a hold up and forced manager Davis, the clerk, and four customers to lie down before leaving with the money. The gunman masked his face throughout the incident and vanished into darkness.
Three hundred barrels of flour were received last week for the unemployed in Clermont county and distributed by township authorities to assist relief efforts. This marks the fifth allotment for the unemployed with Batavia Township storing at the Gregg warehouse on Fifth Street under Geo. Gregg's charge.
Professor H. H. Davis of Ohio State University argues that education costs dominate the tax bill beyond teachers' salaries. He notes Cleveland spends 27.8 cents on education with teachers receiving 12.9 cents, and that teacher pay reductions would barely dent taxes. He cites several Ohio cities with teachers' salaries around 16–18 percent of education costs.
In Greenfield Ohio and nearby townships a string of scams used fake glasses and so called radium belts to swindle $1600 from a Huntington township woman and $200 from an elderly couple in Bainbridge. A $362.47 certificate of deposit was halted after payment. Clermont county cases claimed cataract removal at home for $1000, with the operation allegedly performed at the home as part of the fee. A warning to avoid doorstep medical consultations is issued.

Captain Lynn Black head of the Hamilton County police recovering in General Hospital from a gunshot wound inflicted by James Webster during a siege at Mt Oran will receive 125 dollars of a reward. A 500 dollar Rush county reward for Webster will be divided among Black Sheriff John Nell Brown County Robert Roberts and an informant from Rushville who helped locate Webster.

The Harmony Club of White Oak district near Amelia held its Annual Christmas party at White Oaks the home of the Hoffmeister Wendland and Lauder sisters. Fourteen guests enjoyed a festive meal and a program with singing recitations and a monologue by Mrs Zue Laub. The Hoffmeister sisters were noted as gracious hosts and symbols of shared happiness.
Columbus, Ohio. State Senator elect James Ford of Ross County will propose a bill in January to require uniform textbooks in Ohio schools. He claims adoption could save over 8 million dollars annually by allowing books to cover more than one term and enabling second hand purchases as students advance. Ford, a retired railroad worker, notes high per pupil costs and aims to reform taxation as part of his agenda.

Marshal J L Pierson shot and killed George Goodwin after Goodwin broke into Milford store on Main St. Pierson said Goodwin attacked, two shots were fired, and Goodwin died en route to General Hospital. Sheriff Roberts and deputies investigated the burglary.

Two armed bandits robbed Hold Up The Donnworth Garage beyond the covered bridge, taking about 25 dollars from the money drawer after forcing Walter Wood into a closet. They fled in a Buick toward Bethel at high speed, likely the same car later found ditched near Batavia, suspected to be stolen at Milford.
The American Legion sponsored a Christmas tree service Friday night on the schoolhouse grounds with appropriate music and treats for each child. After the exercises the tree was moved to the courthouse corner and illuminated for several nights. Donations included $10 from the Batavia Woman’s Club.

Batavia notes Clermont County forms local committee for 88 counties to advance Ohio State Day observance on December 28 with alumni students and parents meeting county by county. A Kroger Co truck traveling from Cincinnati to Bethel and New Richmond left the road at Back Run Saturday morning and flipped over the bank. The driver, Mr Cramer, escaped with no injuries and the goods were reloaded and the trip continued.
Richard Didy of Glen Este and Mamie Moyer of Batavia were in a Sunday auto crash when the steering gear failed near Cincinnati. Miss Moyer suffered facial cuts and lost a front tooth in the accident while Didy escaped with only a general shaking up. This marks a second accident for Miss Moyer.
