Christmas Programs Bring Cheer to Batavia and Bethel
The Batavia Civic Christmas committee distributed 70 food and toy baskets to needy Batavia families, with 200 children receiving candy fruit and toys. A school party gave 400 children half pound candy boxes, and a community Christmas tree stood at the courthouse corner. Bethel's Archie Lee Boyce Post American Legion hosted a 600 person gathering with 322 children treated 88 prizes drawn and 40 Christmas baskets later distributed by the Legion, funded by local patrons and theater can drives.

Asher McClanahan aged 67 died last week after a paralytic stroke that left him bedridden since May. Born near Rural on the Ohio river he moved to Felicity and settled in Bethel in 1920. Survived by wife Maude four sons Ralph Virgil Charles Harold and daughter Leona Morford. Funeral at Bethel Christian Church conducted by Rev. A L Althaus. Kennedy Funeral Home supervised. Burial in Bethel cemetery.

Parker S. Bookwalter of Dayton has been appointed Division Eight engineer by Col. Robert S. Beightler director of the Ohio department of highways. He succeeds Frank L. Raschig who becomes Ohio director of public works. Bookwalter, long time official in Division Eight, will oversee eight counties including Montgomery and Preble with headquarters at Middletown. He is a graduate of Ohio Northern University and has held diverse posts from city engineer to WPA field engineer. He was deputy division engineer prior to this promotion.
